Got Mintex brake pads and Black Diamond disk for the front wheels last week.

They seem OK (guy at garage highly recommended them). ne1 else got them ?

he reckons grooved are better than drilled, as the drilling weakens them.

he's had a set of Black Diamond on his rally Subaru, and has found them to be better than other (more costly) ones, eg. Brembo.

Aww Nelson! Come on mate! I saw a post from you headed "new disks and pads" and I thought I could come in here and see a suggestion for making pads out of old tea bags or something.

You've let me down Nelson, me old mass guru.

:D

If drilling weakens them, then why do race cars that do not use carbon discs and pads have drilled steel discs instead?.

Wendy when the discs are drilled, they usally start to crack from that point with all the heat.

Errm Porshe the acknowledged leader in braking on street cars = Drilled? I think youll find it is better regardless and they wont crack if they are designed when the disc is created. When you make the disc with the drilled holes in it, you find they are fantastic, when you make them AKA back garden drilled holes lol, they will go wrong.

There is no great science to it, go to Le Mans and look up the entire grid (bar the GTP OR LMP 900 class who use carbon) every other car has cross drilled discs.

If I remember rightly, the Porsche holes are actually in the castings when they are made, so they are not drilled afterwards. Well at least that's what I was told when I got them.

Vijay

The holes are cast as you say, the porsche brakes are fantastic, been in a friends 996 turbo, and they are phenominal, but only as good as the same size setup in an AP 'slotted' disk.

Horses for courses, I prefer the look of the 'slotted' disk 6 slots not loads of them!

Cheaper aftermarket discs are drilled holes, and are sometimes not so good.

Doh, vijay posted as I was writing :D

My bike discs are drilled (well have holes) and theyre the best on market(r6)

I have had black diamond crossed and drilled discs with GS EBC and they lasted about 6 months of normal driving, they cracked around where they had been drilled, even though they still stopped the car better than anything I had previously bought.

Value for money is shite though....

i warped mine in 2 months!!

i would never buy em again

Rerhaps this post sums up the situation ?. For better braking, get drilled disks (manufactured), but for longevity (road cars), DON'T get drilled disks. ??

Racing cars don't need disks which last ages - just till the end of the race.

Thats right, every meet I would say,Graham at Syko racing was warping a set of 350mm AP discs per meet:D in saloon car racing!
