Hi all,

I'm new to 300zx.co.uk, my name is James, I live in bournemouth, work with electronics and just bought my first zx:

NA 2+2 '90 MAN, J-Spec, uprated shocks and exhaust

I'm really happy with the car, really enjoyable car to drive, apart from the clutch:

*The clutch pedal feels really heavy, and after driving for an hour in traffic, my left foot kills!!! The pedal also feels "sticky" in operation. With the engine running I can hear a slight noise from the gearbox that dissappears when i press the clutch. It doesn't have a clutch booster being a NA model, so it can't be that. I have tried bleeding the system once, but saw no bubbles.

Is this the signs of a dying clutch?

Is it the hydrolic system (master/slave), any way to check?

Is it the release bearing?

Also is there any where to get a trim kit from; from the bonnet running either side of the windscreen to the roof, over the targa's? As mine you can see the chrome underneath!

Thanks for any help...

p.s. any good experienced garages in my area?

Hi James,

I live in Broadstone (small world hey!). the clutches are very heavey on both the turbo and N/A. the stickynes may be the pivot pin on the clutch pedal it self? if you had air in the system your clutch would not work corectly ( may grind gears because of the plates not separating properly)

The noise you mentioned when the clutch pedal is out and goes when you depress the pedal is just the clutch reliese bearing, Nothing to wory about!

if your clutch is not slipping or smelling burnt after a thrashing dont wory about it,

as for the stiffness it might be an idea to replace the slave cylender as it could be a little siezed. got a fealing that the turbo one is the same (dont take my word for it though!) if it is you can use the UK part number and go to nissan.

Hope this helps

Kris

( oh by the way if you see a white 300 with 18's on, that will be me!)

I'm afraid I couldn't disagree more, I have a turbo and the clutch, when working correctly, is very light for such a powerful car. If yours is very heavy then you either have a problem of some sort or a very serious aftermarket clutch.

Agreed. Have a standard clutch in mine at the moment and the clutch pedal was very light.

Will have to see what difference there is once I start driving her with the RPS clutch installed.

my standard clutch was very heavy when it wore out. i put an uprated RPS in & its even lighter than the knackered stock one was.

Paul - which RPS did you go for? I've heard conflicting stories over the Max Street Clutch as to its heaviness...

the one smiffy gets!! :D not sure what its called but its the one with a street disc.

Re clutch weight, yeah just to confirm, i just put my n/a in for a tt, so only a matter of days ago i was depressing an n/a clutch which was just as ligth as tt one if not a bit lighter, and i dont find either of them heavy so defo think you have a prob hth
