For those for you that have the rear lights tinted. Can I ask how you did it ?. Film or spray ?

I wanna do mine as they kinda stand out a bit now I got the windows tinted.

Stu, you know that I sprayed mine but I suppose the film would be alot easier to take off if you ever wanted to. and easier to apply I reckon. Plus point with the acrylic spray is that you can go as light or dark as you want.....and will the lights shine through the film effecient enough? Haven't really heard of anyone doing it the "film" way tbh.

I did the lights tinting on my subaru ages ago, but i didnt really get a shinny finish, it looked too dull. I think using a film might be a better idea.

I was going to tint mine when i get mine, but i might wait for you to do yours, and see what results you come out with. Good luck.

Stu get Peter to do them won't charge you much and trust me it would be worth it when you see the finish,ChrisC did his own using two cans of tint from Halfords,WHAT A FOOKIN MESS! you could not even see the lights when they were on LOL.

I sprayed mine before I changed to the quad rear lights but didn't do a very good job of it.

I rushed it and ended up with a couple of runs because I didn't remove the lights and lay them flat.

I also put too much on - didn't realise it looks much darker once it dries.

When I put the quad lights on I didn't like the look of the indicators and reversing light so Peter at PPS used red tint to make it look like 4 matching red lights on the back.

Only problem is my reversing light glows a nice shade of pink!

Wish me luck Chris- I've just bought a can of red lamp tint from Harry's and will have a go this weekend (weather permitting!) at painting my indicators/reverse/fog lamps like yours.

Chaps does anyone know where to get this film from? I think i might do it im loving the dark light thing

On this subject, I remember an article in Lax Power or similar when I used to read it years ago  about some knobber who used.........wait for it.........a pair of stockings!!!!!! :slap: :nono:

Seriously, he put the light fitting inside (his mums??) a stocking and bolted it back into place!!!!

Richard :D

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

A few years ago i tinted my rear lights on a manta , i work in a bodyshop so i thoght i,d get one of the painters to do it , Painter explained that some of the clear laquers used cannot be tinted with black paint , just depends on the brand , luckily ours could (but can,t remember the brand ) so i gave them a good rub down with some scotchbrite and had em sprayed , looked the mutts cos you have the gloss finish just like the originals

and the light shone through really well HTH :D

think id rather go with the film tho if it is any good..has anyone actually used the film instead of sprayin?

the film i would think would be very difficult to keep in place as window film is for the inside . the lights would have to be tinted on the outside they would be easy enough to do but you would have to use a spray adhesive and how that would react to the film is anybodys guess

Im a signmaker, and ive tinted my rear lights very cleverly!!!using a clear vinyl, i have printed a 50% black ink onto the clear vinyl and applied it onto the lights.very decent job, post your lights to me and ill tint them to whatever % tint u want.much better than the cheapy spray you get, looks the dogs

could you not post out the vinyl it would work out much cheaper even with a good profit for yourself than sending two rear lights by post ..and if they got damaged also

well.............

yes, i suppose i could, its just the knack of fitting the vinyl properly. If anyone would like a 'kit' making with instructions!i could do that. if you specify the % of tint u require, ill see how many are interested and go from there.

Richard, that 'stocking car' didnt happen to be a green Fiat Bravo by any chance??! A guy at work did exactly the same thing. Looked pathetic! :slap:

Stu - Haven't you got 99spec rears? Is there anything better than nice clean 99 spec rears!!!!
