Recently noticed smoke from engine bay after runing car for about 30 mins. Smoke coming from wheel arch and also from top of bonnet near the battery. I have checked everything i can think of and found not leaks etc...well that are visible. I think it maybe a small issue of oil dripping onto the exhaust manifold, can anyone help.

I've got the same problem but no idea what it is...

First of all you need to determine what the smoke is. Smell it - if it smells a bit like a kettle its water, if it smells like your following a 5 year old metro then its oil from then you can narrow down what you're looking for. Another point is what colour is the smoke???

 

Find this and your half way to finding a cure...... supposedly

My guess is it's your rear-main seal.

If there are drops of oil on the housing between the engine and the gearbox..it's the seal for certain.

 

The oil drips onto the catalysts/exhaust and that causes the smoke.

 

The seal is a pain to replace..gearbox has to come off.

I had this on my car before it went into SE, Eric has put my mind at ease, well we'll see when it all goes back together if it's still doing it then it must be something else.

I know, I know!

 

But I'm not in that much of a hurry at the mo! Provided PeteR is actually working on my car. I hope so!

 

Anyway, I'm imbetween houses at the moment and living in a nice terraced two up three down! LOL!

 

With 3xRotweillers, a stupid black labrador look-a-like and a mongrel that will probably out live me for christs sake! He's about 18 and still going!

 

Next house is on the go but things are sllloooowwww! Has a nice big garage for me Z(when I get here back!) and 4.06 acres for the womans' nags, plus my prize thoroughbred/irish draught.

 

So Blackpool is not an option geeZer, are you going down to JAE(Jap. Auto. Extrava.) next month?
