Just checking my oil level today on may Jap NA. The dipstick seems to say ok but when i took off the oil reservoir cap - there is no oil visible. Should i be able to see oil looking down the hole like when you look down the radiator cap and see coolant??

 

The car is on a slight slope - but nothing big, back end of the car is at the lower end of the slope. Its a pain in the ass having your driveway on a slope :)

No you shouldnt be able to see any oil. You should be able to see that the bits damp with oil but you should not be able to see a puddle of oil.

 

The oil is pumped round the engine from the bottom.

No ! :)

 

Unless your engine is running when you take off the cap, then you will see the oil. All over the place ;)

Yep. if you can see a puddle of oil you have gallons in there not litres.

Hint for oil.....

 

Change it about 3 times in a one month period....filter and all. Works very well as a flush except you don not have to risk using flushing agents in the Zed.

 

When I bought my zed and took the filler cap off after a run, I could see smoke coming off the oil. Did the £ changes in one month and sonce then (change the oil every 1500 miles regardless) I get no smoke from the filler spout. Seems a bit OTT I know but doing things this way really does protect the engine (almost) regardless of how you drive the car.

 

Worth thinking about...depending on your level of neurosis of course....

The Skyline is OK mate, just a car at the end of the day haven't used it for 6 months I get bored quickly hehe ;) - thinking of taking it down to Abbey MS and telling asking them to do some crazy stuff with it.
