Hiya,

Carrying on from my post about selling my Zed yesterday, I've been thinking for a while that I could actually use it instead?

For thos ethat didn't see my post yesterday, I'm seriously thinking about getting rid of mine because I don't use it. I do a 110 mile round trip to work every day and I use a Mondeo, so my Zed just sits around gathering dust and costing me money every now and again..

Bearing in mind it's got 79500 miles on it already, how do these cars stand up to the kind of mileage I have to do every day, if I were to ditch the Mondeo and use the Zed? Am I likely to experience engine trouble in 10K miles or so?

Thanks for your help..

I reckon the Z engine is plenty reliable enough for that sort of mileage, but you better buy shares in Optimax coz the fuel bill will be HUUUUUUUUUUGE. At least you'll enjoy the drive to/from work though.

Cheers!

Yeah, but not as much as you might think...only costs £70 a week ( I tried it once), but even now I pay £50...mind you I was taking it easy in the Zed, whereas I floor the Mondeo!

I was just wondering whether I'd be shelling out for massively expensive repairs every month or so..

As long as you get the Zed serviced regularly, with oil changes and all, she should be fine. Mine was my daily driver for 3 years and not a single problem with the engine.

In fact, in the 4 and a half years I've had the Zed, the only issues have been :

*PTU (as per)

*Turbos (legacy of previous owner)

*Clutch - now.

So mine has been incredibly reliable.

(I've done it now....*frantically touches wood*) :D :D

Cheers Ajay....

That's the sort of thing I'm scared of though...if something happened to the turbos, how much does it cost to replace them?

I did, err nearly 20,000 in my first year of Zed ownership, without any real problems, at least none that I wouldn't expect from any car, brakes, tyres, etc etc. I used the car every day and enjoyed every trip, although there were a few days in Jan whe the roads were a bit 'slippy' :S

The Zed was a £30K car when new, it is also Japanese, and as such IMHO can be considered more reliable that a vast number of the cars on the UK roads.

Any car, if well serviced and cared for will offer a pretty high level of reliability. I think where miss the point on the forum is that a lot of these cars have been through a number of owners with differing levels of care and attention not to mention some rather dubious modifications.

My recommendation would be a full service and check of everything inc renewal of fluids - brake, trannie, g'box, engine, PS etc. and off you go. The more miles you do the less it'll cost you in real terms and bugger all depreciation, you can think about that as you whizz past the brand new Renault on the motorway knowing he's already £3K down on purchase price.

FYI my car, over 25,321 miles of motoring cost 30ppm to run inc, insurance but not depreciation.

HTH

Hiya Clarkey

I'm near Tettenhall, matey. Is yours the silver one I've seen around? Mine's dark metallic blue (hence my nickname...hmm..imaginative, eh?!). You may not have seen it though...it doesn't come out much in this crappy weather..

Where are you in Wolves??

Im at Codsall m8, not my zed, its my dads, stays in the garage in this nasty winter weather :p

Not seen a blue one around. Ours is pearl white, have a look at my rides section.

Looks like you missed out on this last year then :(

Ahh Jesus! Yeah, I did. That place is pretty much on my doorstep as well! I'll keep a lookout for you.

Tell you what....if there's ever anything that keep making me change my mind about selling up, and wanting to keep it, it's this place!!

Let's just hope the car survives the journey to Jeff TT tomorrow...I've got petrol leaking on the engine. Been alright so far, cause it stops when the engine gets warm (great timing!). When I get it fixed, you might well see it around more!

Depends if you replace them with standards or not. I think mine cost approximately £600 a piece, although I had a warranty on my car, which basically meant that I only paid about £200 for the job.

Cheers

Neet

And at £600 a piece, you can practically get aftermarket ones for that cost.... (Obviously not if your warranty covers it, like Ajay's did..)
