I recently had 2 new temp sensors put in my Z as I was only getting 12Mpg. It now does around 19 but there seems to be a gurgling sound coming from the top left of the engine. It does it about 60% of the time, and when I phoned Aldershot Nissan knew what I was talking about straight away and said that all Z's do it and it is normal..... although it has never done it before, does anyone elses car gurgle.....? Also when I picked it up the Super HICAS light was flashing and when I took it back they said that the 'levels' were low and topped them up, since then it has dripped a small amount of oil, but they said that they will need to take some of my engine out to find the cause, could they have over filled what ever they topped up.....?

check out twinturbo.net. The gurgling could be comming from a couple of valves under each wheel arch. Simple job, remove plastic wheel arch, remove valves, clean insides, put back on car and drive.

good luck

Matt,

The fluid they will have added to stop the HICAS light would be power steering fluid. You can't really overfill it but they could have spilled some. Keep an eye on the level and see if it's reducing. If it is then there's a power steering leak. However this is unlikely to involve any significant engine dismantling. A torch and a hydraulic lift would find 90% of problems.

Power steering fluid is actually auto gearbox oil which is why it looks like a normal oil leak.

Thanks for everyone's help...

My HICAS light has just come on again so I think it must be a leak....

Matt, what's this about temp sensors and mpg then ?

I get 10-12mpg too, though I am 95% certain it's my lead right foot (I never got more that 20 odd in my 1.6 mr2 either).

Still, be interested to know how you found out your temp sensors were duff.

Stu,

The garage I originally bought it from couldn't work out why the MPG were so low I was getting 12Mpg, my car was also cutting out and hesitating when pulling away. Finally after a month they agreed for me to take it to the Nissan garage in Aldershot. They hooked it up to their test bed and they picked up that 2 temp sensors had gone and was on full choke practically all the time. They replaced these and now I get around 18-19Mpg around town, (whilst giving it a bit of throttle). However I have now got a leaking HICAS System which I didn't have before......... DOH..!
