I Just bought a 300zx Twin Turbo 3 days ago , She is a real beauty and i am chuffed !!! as i've wanted one since i was a wee lad ! anyway i've noticed that the air con doesn't work as it is blowing warm air in even when it set to 10 . I've taken it to a local garage he told me that the belt is missing and that the compressor is seezed ? and it's about £700 !!!! AGHHH (I knew it was to good to be true ), The small wheel that the belt goes around turns freely so how is it seezed ? Is he trying a fast one ? , Can anybody tell me how to check/test if it has seezed and also what does AMB stant for on the air con display. FINALY , What is the 0-60 and top speed for my model its a Twin turbo but an automatic. THANKS DARREN

Hi mate good choice of motor I am on my second and can rate them as a top motor and I have had cossie etc

The auto in my experience is quicker than the manual version due to better gear ratios and change times , also the auto allows the turbos to spool up more easily and anyway always sound better I think.

The 0-60 must be in th 5.5 secs standard and poss bit lower with mods, autos also less likely to wheel spin...better traction

 

As far as your air con if the belts off and it runs free hard to see how it is seized.However the front part of the pump wher the belt fits is an electrically operated clutch that only applies drive to the pump when you switch on the air con it normally freewheels to save on power loss etc.Might be worth running the car with a/c on and see if pump turns although space restrictions may be difficult , also not sure how hard the pump is to turn any way ,the mechanical advantage the belt would have is probably quite high.

It could be just the belt would be nice if it ios good luck. Jeff TT

Amb is ambient temperature if i'm not mistaken.

As for the AirCon pump... The small wheel that the belt sits on is connected to another pulley inside which, when the aircon is switched on should start spinning also.

The aircon on yours is obviously not engaging and so the pump itself could be seized.

That is the crap technical advice out of the way, I sort of know what i'm trying to say, just not doing that good a job of putting it into English.

I can put you into contact with a ex-zed owner that had a pump for sale at £75 if you want, cant guarantee he still has it, but if you cant get one sorted elsewhere then let me know and I'll give you his number.
