no funny comments..... i am really distrubed and need serious feed back. let me set the picture

its was 2am and i had dropped this girl i was seeing home. i was driving back when i noticed a red fiesta with turbo zooming around. at first i took no notice but then i pulled up to a set of traffic lights and guess what? it was there. he strated reving away indicated he wanted a race. i intially thought theres no point but then then my 3litre twin turbo got the better of me.

the lights turned orange and he started to edge then they turned green and the race began.

i had my foot halfway down on the pedal, my turbo was kicking in, so was his. we were neck and neck for the first 4 to 5 seconds and then the road infront of me converged into one. i moved into the other lane, there was no oncoming traffic we had only been racing for about 6 seconds. its at this point disaster struck. i got agitated at being neck and neck with this car, i decided to finally show him the real power. i put my foot down completely on the pedal the car paused for a millisecond and the engine roared like a lion i knew i would leave him standing but guess what......... my engined roared like a beast my back wheels just started to spin out of control and my car ended up sideways. the fiesta just speed of and that was it.

the road wasnt wet but wasnt dry either. my tyres are new and this is the second time this has happened. why?????? is ist just cause of the huge power of the car? is there a fault? i have head that other 300zx do this kind of stuff on occasions? how should i have handled the situation? please give me some constructive advice. i just glad i didn`t crash.

p.s. just to clarify, i wasn`t really beaten i just ended up sideways!!!!!!!!!!

What tyres do you have on the back?

(I sense another chance to do a Bridgestone S03 plug)

Roads at the moment a bit greasy, plus all the road salt everywhere dont help,if you hit a load of it its like being on marbles effect, theres a group buy on Traction Control on other posts, that would sort it!:D

it was very low temps last night. Road was icy even if gritted. You need to watch flooring it in those conditions. Turbo'd cars are the worse.

Or you may have hit a nice smooth manhole which started the spin.

Look on the bright side. You've just made some fiesta drivers day!

Well at 6 seconds you should have been at about 70mph and maybe just chaning into 3rd gear (in a manual not sure about auto, probly just changed into 2nd).

Were your tyres warm ?. Next time you want to have a proper race, warm them up. A quick 2 second burn out while the lights are red should sort you out. LOL

You may need new shocks at the back. Only £40 each.

I have Traction control on mine so I don't get the slip, also have launch so the fiesta would never have been neck and neck in the first place. Well worth buying. We gotta teach those boy racers about real cars. :D

You manaul or auto ?

BURN OUTS WITH ROAD TYRES DO NOT WORK!!!! Drag slicks are designed to be burnt out before the run - all you'll do with a road tyre is probably actually lower the grip...

CheerZ,

Oight mate,

wouldn't spend another minute stressing about it! my car also does this especially since i installed the boost cont....

Ive got new tyres, 10" on the rear, its an auto.

Tony's right the weathers been shite, no terrain to be racing...lol

considering u hadn't floored it in the 1st place indicates the little boy racer didnt stand a chance anyway.. i havent changed my shocks but maybe worth investing into!

jaz

I'm sorry but what a pile of shite, have we really got down to this level?

Okay, so your tyres gave up grip when you put 275 Lb/ft of torque through them, if you didn't realise that the Zed would do this then I think you better just hand your keys back. The laws of physics are really very simple (most of the time, although quantum theory eludes me). Trying to put that much torque down on greasy roads through 2 squares of rubber 6.5" across just ain't gonna happen.

I assume that you drive an Auto from the wording of your post, so you might even have dropped into 2nd which wouldn't have helped.

My suggestion would be: Buy better tyres, get traction control or just live with it.

Bwhahahah you have been watching to much F&F bwhaha or F1 lmao, :D:D:D yeah draw attention to yourself by doign a massive burnout lmao :D

Get TC,.... its really amazing, was driving car home last night, an had TC switched of for whatever reason, car just lights tyres in these conditions, put tc you just go forward faster lol.

1....2.... there that's what I said not a massive burnout. Not something I would do myself, just a thought :D...

Muffman, if you say that warming the tyres in this way won't give you extra grip, how can you explain my arse all ove the shop until the tyres are warm and then it holds the road like it's on rails (not quoting from pretty woman, before anyone starts :D).

Talking of F&F whens number 2 out, I got to get some more ideas LMAO !!!!. I got some strange looks from a few people on a bus the other day when I pulled up next to them with a laptop running traclog on the passenger seat  .

I felt like a bit of a t|t but hey I had to change configurations but needed to know what was going wrong first.

LOL here we go again:D

I would only fit BF Goodridge profiler on my Z,They are fantastic in the wet,and awesome in the dry,I also get around 10k out of a set.

S02's are no longer made!

Whilst Bridgestone make fantastic tyres (even got Potenzas on my everyday motor) you have gotta go for Proxes. They even look sexy!!!

My tyre man, who's done for McLaren and currently does some rally team, advices that the Proxes are much better than the S03 as well.

Go for the Toyos!!!!

Nick

I pretend to work, they pretend to pay me!

Some brand new tyres have to be run for few hundred miles as there are oils in them that cure the rubber, or some shit like that anyways.

I can vow for that. When I got my new rear tyres, the next day I went out and the back end was sliding out goind round corners at slow speed.

RC - Traction control is £530 at the moment, including the launch control option. This is a couple of hundred squid saving on the rrp, as it's a group buy !

Speak to Luke at the Zcentre on 0115 9676356 :)

Oh - and Toyo Proxes T1S tyres are nearly as good as S02s for a lot less dosh (and if you're still running on standard 16" rims you get a puncture guarantee with em too !)
