HELP! - I have managed to pull out all the standard stereo bits from my UK spec Z and on installing a Kenwood KDC8090R with a adaptor cable nothing happens, no power!

It would appear that nissan do not offer an earth through their wiring harness

(The old set up was grounded directly). Would I be best screwing this cable directly to my new head unit or attempting to atapt (bodge?) it to the harness, or have I missed something, Thing is when I plug the old radio part back in without grounding It it works (maybe because it is grounded through the aerial?)

cheers -- Peter

not sure this will help, but the kenwood in our car which is wired directly (not with a convertor) has about 3 seperate earth wires going from the casing to the body, try it, can't hurt to try i guess.

Hi,

When I went to install a Blaupunkt to the ZX I discovered that a special adapter was required. In the end with all the securing it needed I got it proffesionally fitted.

Tanzx

Cheers Chaps, I will try the earth on the chassis tomorrow, failing that, the Tanzx approach, leave it to the pros !

I am only up in Stevenage, where did you go to for the install, and where do you use for servicing etc etc?

Would that be a red Zed that I saw in that Leisure Park place near that all you can eat Chinese gaff ?

Nope, not seen that one, I had a white one and now a gunmetal grey both reg A 2X OK

Talking stereo's I got a jap import with what looks like a Jap Kenwood setup, but I can't tune in the radio, it won't go above 80 on the dial (Radio 1 is 91 plus) am I missing somethiing or just being stupid:confused:

At least what I can get is not all in Japanese:p

to get UK radio on a jap radio you will need a band expander, cost about 15 quid i think, do the job pretty well tbh.

As you've gathered the radio loom doesn't have an earth - its through the chassis/aerial! At least you didn't make the mistake I made of thinking the light circuit was actually the earth - no lights at 6pm on the country lanes back home...

I simply slipped a connector behind one of the centre unit bolts to get the earth wire - but then the person who had the car before me decided to cut all the connectors anyway..... not much problem for my stereo. Still have't worked out what "tapes" are, though!

cheers chaps,

I attached the earth to the casing and it has come to life.

All I need to do now is chop off that stupid two pin aerial plug, put on a normal one and then assemble the centre console for a factory finish......ahem !

AAAaaahhhhh.....

Cheers Clarkey

just saved me an evening of playing with the crappy stereo menu.

Instead I'll look for a nice new one, any suggestions?

Got a band expander here at work if anyone wants one, free to a good home lol ;)

Ohhh I'll take that!!!

E-mail me how much for the postage, (and how the hell to fit) and I'll send the money

Mail me your address to jaypsc@psctuning.co.uk & I'll send it tomorrow via work lol

Basically just plug the aerial into it & attach red wire to switched live, really is easy. You might need some adaptors for wierd Z aerials tho ;)

Jay

Mark, can you mail me again lol, I think I deleted the mail by accident :o :D
