My car at the Harlech car show last August, not Trax or Billing but it was only started last year for charity for a guy who died in a tragic accident in his Scooby!

Was a good turnout considering.

Was this the lad who was killed when trying to over take 3 cars and once and was hit by a truck, leaving his girlfriend in a wheel chair?

Stuart

Story has to be told with more detail.

Yep he was overtaking three cars on a clear stretch of road when the car at the front decided to turn right at the last minute into a caravan park. Kieran swerved to avoid the car and I think he hit a wall. He was killed and his girlfriend survived and as you said Stu is in a wheelchair.

Remember what you are taught when you learn to drive. Mirror, signal, manoeuvre. I just asked Mrs T about this and she said that he was at fault but I would dispute that. Surely a charity trust would not be setup if a person was at fault for reckless driving.

I don't really know all the facts anyway but that's just my opinion on the tragic event. What I do know is that I will be there again this year to support it. Was a cracking day.

I remember seeing pics of the day on the Scooby net site.

Yes it is tragic and I feel for the girlfriend who lost her loved one and was put in a wheel chair.

It was an accident and the person at the front wouldnt expect some one to be overtaking them from 3 cars behind them. Personally I think it was a stupid thing to do. But that's the dort of thing Scooby drivers do.

Ouch! That's a very harsh, sweeping statement! Not all Scooby drivers are idiots and not all non-Scooby drivers are the paragon of decent driving....

Listen, where does it state in the highway code that you are only allowed to overtake one vehicle? Three car lengths would still be less than an articulated lorry so I don't think it's a stupid thing to do if the road is clear ahead!

YES, it is a stupid thing to do if the road ahead is not clear and maybe a blind bend comes into the equation.

What, in this case, was a stupid thing to do was turn without checking your mirrors first, that however is a basic lesson taught when learning to drive me old mate! ;)

You only need to drive for a few hours on the British roads to discover there are a lot more 'unaware' or down right dangerous drivers on the road than there are good ones.

As drivers of a 'performance' car we must remember that we are not the 'norm'. The vast majority of road users have a car as a means of conveyance from A to B, the inner working of this machine or the finer points of the craft of driving mean little to them.

You do not need to be a good driver to drive a fast car, you must just have the money to purchase it. A point that we might all remember as 'our' cars dip below £4K!

I do not know who was at fault in this specific circumstance, and it is of little consequence, so, do not take this as any commont on this particular incident.

Tim

You thumb down I thumb UP!

Fair comment matey. ;)

As I said, I don't really know that much about what happened. I spoke to Jason, Tony Lacks mate at the show and that's what he told us about it.

Still tragic whichever way it is perceived. When I go this year to the show I will speak to Chris who organised last years event and get the full story.

Sorry Tim, not meant as anything negative, just my thoughts.

It just seems to me that 'fast' cars are getting more and more affordable and yet the training necessary to driven one of these cars is minimal. £9K for a Skyline or £5K for a Scooby.

Have you noticed the increasing number of new cars that are hitting the marketplace with 200+bhp?

I pride myself as a good driver, but I will also put my hands up to being a quick one, I abide by speed limits in residential areas but the outdated limits on motorways I tend to use on an advisory basis only. I have 3 points to proove it :D But, having said that I did roll a MkI Supra over a dual carrageway so, perhaps with age comes wisdom.

Tim

Yeah you're right mate. I didn't take what you said the wrong way either...you were/are dead right to be honest.

when you have a slow vehicle like a caravan or lorry in front the problems are caused by soft gets who are too afraid to overtake and they make it worse by bunching up close together so you have no choice but to overtake them all at once. Thats how these things happen.

Good point mate.
