Hi all,

I have a 1996 JDM TT Targa, it has become something of a restoration project now.

The next step is to address any corrosion and a full respray.

However I am torn between keeping the original pearl white, or going for a solid white.

The solid white is definitely cheaper, easier to maintain and to me looks almost as good.

Also I have been told it can be really difficult to match pearl white panels and get everything to blend in.

I am also think of removing the late twin turbo spoiler and going for something more discrete or not have one at all.

Your thoughts and any pictures would be really appreciated.

Harry

I'll put a vote in for original pearl white and either a 89 spec replica spoiler (with dodgy fitment, like mine) or one of the low laying twin Z spoilers.

Personally not keen on the spoiler-less look.

Original 89 spoilers are stupidly expensive, if you can even find one.

Solid white for me and a Twin Z rear spoiler is much sleeker than OEM so my preference also. I went for the type 2 which has a curve to it to modernise the rear and but the type 1 is sleeker - see JoelyP’s Z for reference.

Thanks,

I think I will go for a solid white, Jimmer mentioned Lexus Ultra White Metallic which does look stunning.

I will definitely go ahead and get the spoiler changed and see if I can source one, I found this which I think would look okay:

I have also had a look at side skirts to give the car a fuller look, but the only ones I can find seem to be the ones from twinZ in the states, but they are quite expensive.

Any thoughts?

I'd try and see if you can still get an original spoiler from Nissan. I've not seen a single replica spoiler which fits properly.

I had mine painted a Lamborghini metallic white (was originally KH6, the pre-94 tri-stage pearl white). I swapped all my glass out too for blue tint rather than the original bronze tint, yours should be blue as it's a 96,

I don't know exactly which replica spoiler is mine but I guess it's probably that one. The fit is not great, you likely won't get it to line up with the bottom of the boot lid perfectly. I'd make your decision with that in mind.

I do like a pearl white but as mentioned it can be hard to match if need be in future. I would say go solid or metallic white.

Personally I don't like spoilerless although the 2 seater does look a lot better than the 2+2 without one.

I much prefer the 89 spoiler over any other, although the Twinz ones are nice. Would definitely avoid the fibreglass 89 replica though. They have to be bonded on to fit properly, which eventually breaks down like my current one and the spoiler edge starts to come away from the body allowing water to get in. I managed to get hold of a 89 spoiler from Nissan last year, not cheap but I was happy paying the extra for a better fitment.

As for side skirts the Twinz ones look great. Mine has some old ones by Car Mad fitted, which I think are replicas of another brand, along with door fillers on the bottom edge. When I have the car resprayed I'll be removing these and going back to OEM with no sideskirts.

Thanks all, looks like solid white it is, will see if I can source an 89 OEM spoiler, otherwise it may be better just to stick with my current one.
