Hi Guys & Girls,

The Porsche is up and running very nicely, so onto the 300.

I am looking to refurb the front and rear subframes, the whole underside, brake lines, PS lines & Fuel lines. Big Job.

Started by removing the rear bumper, looks like it has never been off before, then draining the petrol (still in the process).

Took some underside pictures of the task in hand, it’s not bad mostly surface rust. I will be cutting all rust out and welding it my

self, if I can build a complex Porsche engine and it hasn’t exploded after 300 miles, anything is worth a try.

I need to decide what to do with one of mine.  The cars have just been sat and the wide arch one has developed rotten cills.  The issue is that I think the kit and everything would need come off and rust / welding is the only thing I've never tried to tackle

That is a dilemma, I’m not in a rush and will learn as I go.

Well folks I have finally gone mad spending an obscene amount of money on a laser, 3 in 1 cleaner, plasma cutter and welder.

I will have to start some sort of business to pay for it, so I am testing it on my underbody.

Had a quick look through the videos and that’s some pretty impressive stuff! Guess you could use it to strip off old underseal and refinish the chassis completely. No idea how much these cost but must be a fortune!

Yes I am going to strip all the underseal that’s needed make it rust free and reapply new underseal. It can clean all sorts of materials. Cleans in the seams and hard to access ares.

I see a chassis restoration service in the making! The amount of labour it would take without the laser, to get the chassis to bare metal like that, would be insane.

Yes and the effort and mess, dust is crazy. 
I can sit on a chair and point the laser it’s very good. There are so many places you can’t get the wire wheel in. 
The laser also cleans into the seams, at the weekend I am going to try and save my wheel arches.

Cripes Tony, I think you need to stop restoring cars and become a Bond villain with that weapon!

Keep us updated and good luck sorting this. If this is the inside of the rear arches, I had rust on the drivers side which came as a surprise. 

What's the plan once it is all stripped. Do you know what you will apply?

I will use acid etch primer then decide on what underseal to use, not sure if I will leave it black or paint it back to body colour.

Did a bit more Today, this area above the drivers side exhaust was very pitted so I had to laser it, wire wheel a bit then laser it again, came up nicely.

Laser rays are so cool, anyone know if the exhaust hanger studs are removable.

Today I removed the acid etch primer was an old can, and purchased some, Rust-Oleum Hard Hat Anti-Rust Corrosion Primer 218. The laser had it off in seconds. I have also found out a few passes with the laser over the thick under seal heats it up nicely and pealed off with a blade. 

 

 

New primer on.
