My insurance is about to expire and the renewal for this year has gone £150. Any names for a good company where I can get my import insured.

Thanks

John

we had this discussion a while ago when we used the bravenet forum, but i didnt archive any of it... Nico ?

basically, some people here have a decent insurance policy, that allows upgrades and track days, and some of us have 'normal' policies that allow you to look at the car :)

personally, i use Admrial at the moment, but will definitely be changing at renewal time, as i am fed up with only being allowed to look at my car...

can we have some feedback here, but NOT what price you are paying with whom, but what price you are paying if you have a flexible policy, and where you got it from.

30yrs old - 1991 Auto Import.

£610 with Adrian Flux (renewed at the end of Nov '99) including POP filter and they will accept the exhaust (but charge me more when I remember to tell them), but no chips:-( (OPi were the best last year).

Have a look at Insurance Links and ring around!

Max no claims, 30yo, no accidents/points. average area, garage.

about £800 with Greenlight, with all mods listed, euro cover, was also told it had track cover for about 50quid a year go. But I didn't ever get it last time I went on the track, they were too slow and said the price had gone up.

It's insured for almost any mods that improve the saftey, sway bars, brakes. and also I'm allowed to go upto 400bhp on the same premium. It's insured on a BHP over the stock amount basis.

I also phoned - I think it was Adrian flux (are they the beetle people?) and they also quoted me the same figure, but no track cover.

The track cover generally doubles the excess while on the track.

Admiral used to be the cheapest for me - when STOCK.

This is how to get the cheapest quote.... a theory I came up with that seamed to work.... Always pick at least 5 popular names and make sure you phone a good 5-10 companies. It's always the last one that seams to be 100quid less than the rest.

Another question. How many people are interested in this: I sort of know one of the people at my ins company and perhaps he'd be willing to offer a group discount. But I'd only bother if at least 5 people would seriously consider....

Jez.

Jez,

mine is due early september, and i would definitely be interested in something like that, if it is the same sort of thing as you have now.

I have to bear in mind that i am london based now, which will be more expensive :(

thats why i am with admiral, as they are the cheapest for stock + exhaust, and they will consider brakes too, but cease cover for intake mods !!

Nah didn't arch the old threads,

I seem to remmeber Adrian Flux and Greenlight be mentioned heavily before for Modded carz and Admiral for Stock Z's with mild mods(and undeclared more aggressive ones :o) )

Another Point for those that use Admiral and this probably applies to other insurance companies, is Do not get your insurance renewed in the depths of winter (specially near Xmas) as the price due to increased accidents in high HP vehicles on the roads during those time will bump your premium up bay up to 160 quid, i know from experience but managed to get them to honour a older quote for considerably less.

Happy Hunting.

My insurance is due up on 8th August. I would be interested to see what deal could be done for a group buy. It will have to be quick as renewal is only 4 weeks away.

Okay, I will phone greenlight this week and report my findings...

MARK.... did you phone greenlight and get a price?

Good news,

I have spoken with the manager of Greenlight who can offer lower insurance after putting a proposal to the insurers saying we own cherished cars and we are a lower risk because that are valuable in a personal sence.

In brief:

The sort of discount could be around 13% of there current prices.

They WILL insure mods, performance increases based on the BHP increase.

They WILL insure track days, ranging 30-50quid for example which is based on the track saftey.

I need everyone interested to send me (email) thier risk details, ie, car, mods, power, points, accidents and a reason why they are a better risk. (Ie. Advanced driver, track experiance)

I will also be approaching the UK Z club and getting them involved.

They do not want to ensure just anyone with a 300 in this deal, only real Z people!

got to go... email me!

that is great news, i will be forwarding my details on to you later Jez.

I guess you will also need approximate renewal dates for people interested too.

As an aside...

define a real Z person :)

explain why i am a better risk ? hmm...

try quotelinedirect.co.uk ? they were cheap for stock cars.

Nice work Jez, couple o ?'s

:Explain why i am a better risk ?

Because i drive a 400bhp super car and am not afraid to use it :o)

Somehow i dont think that one is gonna fly.

:It's insured on a BHP over the stock amount basis.

Is that at the flywheel or Rear wheels. Or can we be creative.

:we are a lower risk because that are valuable in a personal sence.

My Girlfriend can testify to that !

I'd shoot ya a mail but am not ready to renew for a undefined period of time du eto my car being off the road. Sounds promising tho.

After a long conv with the insurers, we are a better risk beacuse we own cherished cars....

Jez, do we each have to think of a good reason why we, individually, are a good risk, or is it enough that we own cherished cars? Not too easy this one...

BTW Is Steve still around and servicing your car?

bl***y Ultimate board. It looses everything when you get the password wrong. In brief:

I only need a breif list of your ins details in order to get a letter together, not a reason any more.

Yes- Steve is still around and hopefully he will be doing my 555cc injectors. He says he is up for doing any other 300zxs too. BTW... Steve E also knows a good Nissan 300 mechanic.

I've been checking around and have found the following; Try www.screentrade.co.uk they check with about 14 different insurers at the same time on-line, they were able to provide me with five on line quotes, best quote came out at £553.43. They advised on the net that Admiral are not able to provide with an immediate quote but will email it, as of yet, 1 day later, no response.

Also try www.1stquote.co.uk best quote at £508. Norwich Union direct www.norwich-union.co.uk for a good quality policy with breakdown cover (not that our cars ever breakdown)£755.

The best "all round" quote came from the RAC of all people, £542.03 tel: 08457 121345.

Other insurers who would quote and were reasonable; Direct Line 0845 246 0019, but only on the phone, wouldn't work on the net on a 300 for some reason. Churchill tel: 0800 200326.

Sometimes their internet systems report they are unable to provide a quote,I went back and amended details and then they worked, Norwich Union for example. Screentrade is good for this because they suggest you go back and tell you what would get your premium down, try them first because it will give you a good starting point.

The policies do vary a lot when you look in to some of the extras. Some give you free or a small amount of European cover (RAC 30 days), some only cover a small amount for the stereo.

I would like to hear of all your quote reports.

  • 3 weeks later...

i need to revive this topic pretty sharpish :)

Jez, do you have any more info on this ?

Can you pass on the contact details for Greenlight ? As what i think is their website appears to be not working.

I want to get some insured mods done.....

I am 21 and have been phoning around for quotes for an imported 90 300ZX TT, SWB. First it seems hard to get cover for imported cars at the moment (though apparently only a temporary problem) and secondly it is hard to get a quote for me being 21 (Don''t laugh I know that's expected). The best quote I got was £1200 from Direct Line which supprised me as they have always been silly prices for my stock 8V Golf GTI.

Any suggestions on places to try for a better quote, also would this deal you might be getting for "Cherrished" cars be suitable for me (being 21)?

Cheers

Paul (too young to drive super cars, "my arse I am" I love em).

  • 2 weeks later...

Most Insurance companies are not interested in any kind of group deal.

If you want to insure a modified car the places I can reccomend are either Greenlight or Adrian Flux. If you come up with another tell me so I can call them myself... before 4/9/00!

If you phone green light, ask for Nick in re-newals to get added into the UK 300ZX club (ref: Jeremy Mitchell) and if no-one in the club has a crash for a year we can get a discount.

FYI: My greenlight quote was £850... for

All my mods... the only thing that increased the premium is the BHP, tell the insurer about all the mods to cover them as most incur no extra cost

NCB is protected by loosing one year at a time.

Track cover ranges £25 to £80 depending on the track run off. (Per day)

I have max NCB, 30yo, Average area, garaged, 3 points.

keep this thread updated with your quotes!

Can anybody help, i am looking to get a quote on a 300ZX modified to about 350-400bhp with all HKS mods, standard wheels/body, best quote 2,300 eahh

Tim! read my above post!

Greenlights number is 01277 263030

also try adrian flux, I put my details onto their web site today....

http://www.adrianflux.co.uk/

If you come up with any other good places let me know... mine runs out on

the 4th.

Hi Jez

Sorry i got caught up in the moment, there is another company looking in to it for me today, i will post any useful info i get

Tim

Try this company, i have just got a quote back for the moded ZX, 1499, from 2,500

Ambrose Dearby, Graham Dearby 01282 690 902

Tim

Another revival of this old chestnut =)

Just stumbled across a place called Ironsure (www.ironsure.com) who've beaten my previous best quote by £100 (£800, instead of £900 from Admiral)

(Dunno where I'm going wrong: 26y/o, 9yr clean licence, 7yr no claims, garage, etc - still getting shafted!)

Anyway, wanted to ask about this Ironsure... anyone checked them out? They don't do annual premiums, you get renewed monthly! They don't seem to do a standard no claims protection deal either, but say they evaluate each claim instead. Odd.

No mention is made about imports or mods, maybe they won't touch them (but the site didn't complain when it couldn't match the reg# of the 92 import I was trying). Their site should supply an instant answer, anyway, if anyone wants to compare against their current policy.

Raz

My mistake, Ironsure do state no mods...
