Hey all

My Import has cruise control, but it doesn't seem to work. I've got 3 buttons on the steering wheel "Acc", err can't remeber the other 2, but these don't seem to do anything:confused: . What do they mean?

The CC button on the console makes a green "cruise control" indicator light up on the dash when pressed, also another "cruise" green light has been on at some point, though I can't remember how i did it  :) .

Shouldn't i just have to press the CC console button then it should stick to the speed i'm doing? This doesn't happen, it decelerates.

Is there a diagnostic I can do?

Cheers for any input people

Pete

If it's working, you turn it on with the button on the console, get to your required speed, then press the 'set' button on the steering wheel, and step off the accellerator.

Resume Acc makes you go faster..

Off turns it off..

I think :) It never worked on mine..

Aha - I'll try the "set" button. I'm sure I must have tried it before

Do any of the buttons make a noise or anything to indicate they work?

The steering wheel is a Momo one, but the center piece was retained.

Cheers

Mine works fine. I think resume acc if pressed repeatedly increases the set speed in 1mph increments.

Think UK cars only work between 30 and 90mph

If you had the cruise light come on you must have set it that time.

Touching the brakes obviously cancels it and resume is fun. It amazes me to have the car pull positive boost when you hit resume from about 30 after having been set at 80 - you feel like its running away with you then feel it back off as it reaches the set speed. The sensation of the accelerator pedal going down under my foot without me pushing it is weird too.

Wow! I need it to work now just to experience that! Knightrider springs to mind :D :D :D

Will give it a try later on thanks mate

Cheers

:) Pete,i got the criuse centre from Smithy,he may know more,i only used it the once and it did work, the centre piece with all the buttons is confusing i think due to it coming from japan,i think Stillen do the same centre aswell,i will try to find the instructions, but there in japanese so dont know if they will help, and i cant remember how it works either:p

Yup, once you hit the Cruise swich on the side pod the green light comes on, on the dash. This stays on regardless of if you have the cruise speed SET or not. Once you press the set button it will maintain that speed until you Cancel it, Accelerate or hit the brake.

Good luck on finding any stretch of road that you can actually USE it on though! Each time I set mine I get to travel about 100 yards before I have to hit the brakes 'cause of some dumbf~ck in front.

Oh yeah, and does anyone know how the cruise affects fuel economy? Better or worse?

Yeah good point, anyone know?

Just a thought - sticking the "hold" button on whilst in 4th on fast roads should improve economy cos then the autobox wont change down when you speed up. Esp on long motorway journeys.

Does cruise control work with hold ? :)

Pete

Can only say that on my 24v Cosworth, the cruise ,once you set it to around 70mph+made a big diference to fuel economy,it actualy enables you to use less fuel due to the driver not having to come off and on and off accelerator like in normal driving,it uses a form off engine braking too, very efficient but as you say ,you set it then some tit up front decides to slow up or you have to brake for whatever, would be interesting to know if someone does get better mpg on a zed;)

Pete, when you press the "set" button, lift the brake pedal. Sometimes it doesn't come back up all the way. Since I have adjusted my clutch, I have been having this problem and it is due to the pedal not coming back up all the way.

First press the Cruise Control button to the right dash panel.

The drive upto the speed you want to and the press the set button. It will only work between 30 and 100 mph.

Cruise Control will deactivate through the following ways:-

  • You turn off the Cruse Control by pressing the 'Off' button the the dash panel
  • You speed drops below 30mph
  • You speed goes over 100mph
  • You press the brake or cluch pedal
  • You press the 'Cancel' button

If you are using Crusie Control and you slow down for a round about or anything else, after every thing is clear, press the 'Resume Acc' button on the wheel and the Cruise Control will then return your car to its previous speed before it was cancel.

While you are cruising, you can accelerate using your accelerator pedal and when its released your speed will return to you previous cruise speed.

You can also press the accelerator to speed up and at your desired speed, press the set button again, and you will now cruise at your new speed.

Press the set button once and it will lower the crusie speed by 1mph. But it takes its time lowering. (Press it for the same length of time you use a TV remote and not how you play "track and field".) If you want to increase by 5mph, either accelerate manally 5mph more then press the set button again, or press the set button 5 times but leave a few seconds between each press.

Hold the Set button while crusieing and your car will slow down like you are not pressing the accelerator. Release the Set button and your new crusie speed will be set to you current speed.

Press the Resume Acc button once and your cruise speed will increase by 1mph. Again it takes some time before its noticable.

Hold the Resume Acc button and you car will accelerate. When you release the Resume Acc button you will start to crusie at your current speed.

Stuart.

has your car been de-limited, if not, cruise will not work over 70mph.

mine has been adjusted to work at any speed above 30mph.

No I think cos its a UK it will go to 100mph.

Jap are restricted to 112mph any way when the UK are 155mph

  • Author

No, it is still limited. Cant see why you'd use it over 70 LOL! ;) Unless you were in Germany etc! My plan is to restrict myself to 70 on motorways, too easy to speed otherwise  .

Pete

OK got it wrong. According to my manual its 90mph.

UK cars can cruise between 30 and 100mph.

Click Cruise Control on the console, get to your req'd speed and then press Set. Resume Acceleration means you can put your foot down again until a higher speed and then press SET again. Touching the brakes or clicking Cancel turns off cruise. :)

Never tried it at 100. Tried setting it at 90 one time and see how long it could stay there. The sensation of runaway train certainly gets your attention when some bendy bits appear and you realise you are not in control full anymore, just hanging onto the wheel! Not recommended.

Clarksons AMG merc has the radar contolled kind - that must be fun. First it sets off the radar detector of the plonker hogging the outside lane then applies the juice again when he gets over and the radar says all clear! I thought he had a point too when he said we'd all be safer drivers without seat belts and a big spring loaded spike instead mounted under the driver seat and connected to a shock sensor!

The only crazy drivers would then be masochistic gays with a sharp object fetish.

And now you have it working you can never use it safe in the knowledge that you could if you wanted to. :D

I *do* use CC but you need empty motorway driving really, to get the benefit. :)

Have fun! :D

Oh yeah -What happened to my other 700 odd posts?
