So I'm looking at buying my new z next month but can't decide. I can get one imported from Japan by a decent company within my budget and they claim its spotless or should I just get one in the UK, plenty about. From what I can see the car coming from Japan will be low mileage, looks pretty clean on pics, underside will be treated and all I'll have to do is tax and insurance it when it arrives everything would have been sorted registration, mot ect. only downside is it's an auto.

Cars from Japan will usually be much cleaner than a UK car, but will still need work as plenty of rubber components at the least will need replaced, dashboards cracked from sun etc.

If you can find a car already here that isn't rusty and which has been well looked after I would go for that personally.

From what I can see dash has no cracks and body looks solid not even a scratch on paint work. Which one would be cheaper to sort out rust or rubber components? That's if let's say  rubber components needs changing.

I’ve had UK Z and Jap import Z.

Just got a UK one and sure enough had to get $1000s of rust repairs done. Not good.

The Jap ones are cleaner overall.

Look for auction grade 4B or higher - which you won’t find.

It’s easy regarding gearbox , just ask for a manual. You don’t have to have auto.

Also ask to see the original auction sheet. That’s important.

I just imported. A stunning TT manual 2+2 with 17,000 Miles. Stunning. Auction grade 4B.

Good luck.

I'll have a look today.

Hi there,

I searched my Z from TC-V.com

which is tradecarveiw of old

I just looked under Fairlady 1990 - 1996 it came up with 27 Zeds

I didn’t use a company, I did all the work myself.

good luck with the search

I used Torque GT in Devon for my import. Gave them a spec list - including manual box, no significant mods and even colours I couldn’t stand - and they did the rest. I got an email every week with suitable cars, and just had to flag up which ones to follow up for translations. When I saw “the one” we agreed a max price to go to and the next day I got the call to say she was mine!

All scanning of auction sites, bidding and shipping paperwork taken care of. And I have a rust-free car which has been under sealed and converted to UK. Easiest purchase I ever made, and way better than some of the rusty wrecks I looked at in the UK. All in from giving them my spec list to having the car took about 5 months.

There was another import company in Newcastle I considered, but Torque GT were closer to me and I can’t fault them. Whichever company you use I would heartily recommend importing rather than buying something that’s been in the UK for 20 years.
