Hi all, I've been away for a while moving house and all that and in all the excitement realised my insurance is due.

Here's the crack.

26 yrs old

1 accident last year (lost all no claims)

1 sp60 conviction

many mods including body work, wheels, ECU (Mines), boost upgrade etc etc. Cat 1 alarm.

Only Priveledge will insure me with the mods. Over 7 grand !!!

Nobody else will touch me. Greenlight no longer insure imports. Can't get through to Adrian Flux. Norwich Union will do £2100 for standard power only. I'm running out of options.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Andy

Try Firebond matey...

or give them a ring. However, I think that they aren't that keen on imports anymore for some strange reason. Give them a try anyway, you've got nothing to lose evidently!

Hill House Hammond?

They were pretty good with mine when I had it!

They've got quite a few branches. Worth a shot And.

hi Andy

Try Livingstones on 0800 018 6258 or

sureterm.com

I got some good results from both

Cheers

And,

Fighting for ya now! Try these:-

http://www.belldirect.co.uk http://www.admiral.uk.com http://www.autodirect.co.uk

AutoDirect got my baby Bro an excellent quote on his recent Saab Turbo T16. They use a company called Zenith which is rediculously lower than the big fish(s) like Norwich Union and the squeaky clean brigade(AA).

Give 'em a go and let me know how you get on.

Hi Andy,

These guyZ have got a short memory!!!! Take a look back at the post 'nightmare'. The conclusion was tescos are best wink.gif Try,

CheerZ,

Andy

I use Admiral and had to tell them twice that it was an import, before they begrudingly put the price up 15%. But then they knocked off ~£70 when I didn't want RAC cover and it came back to about £550.

Just phoned Firebond for a quote, but they don't do imports.

oh crap i am with firebond and they did it for me.go to the classics section

just been round the houses with my jap import and the co-op were £150 cheaper than Tescos.

good luck

Warren,

We seem to be getting mixed messages about Firebond, regarding they do or don't do imports. My feeling is that they will only do them under a limited mileage 'classic' basis and consequently the car needs to be more than a certain age (10 years ?) Can anyone confirm ? Warren your car is a 'G' right, so that would come into their criteria.

Jack,

What was the final cost from the Co-Op ?

Tesco's want just over 5K, power increase or no power increase. Livingstones are not getting back to me. I'll chase them up again.

Sorry, NU want £2300 (standard power). I may have to put the car back to stock condition!

The main problems are:

Only a handfull of companies will insure imports now. I took numbers from a 6 month old Banzai mag and found that ALL the companies I called had either stopped insuring imports or you had to be over 30. Insurance companies are pulling out of imports.

Secondly, mods, especially power mods. There are only a handful of companies that will insure modded cars.

Now try to find one that will insure a modded import!

I think I've found them all but it's useless tring to find a sensible quote with an accident also.

I think I only have two choices. Take off mods and/or look a TP/F&T cover up to a max of 5K value.

I don't want to go down the route of not declaring the power increase. Accidently knock over a kid, watch the police give the white glove treatment on your car and then your shagged. Not worth it. It only happens to those who say "It won't happen to me"

Yours crying like a little school girl,

Andy

PS. Johnny - GB on insurance m8???

yup ok you are right i got mine on classice insurence. were really well priced.

Warren, Firebond stopped insuring imports 1 month ago, classic or not. DOHHHH

Give barclays insurance a try, i am currently with them with mods under £250 fully comp, 4 yrs NCB cost £1150.

A mate also uses them with a lightly modded FTO.

I rang Adrian Flux and got a quote for £685, Tesco's wanted over £800. It might be worth giving Admiral a try, they quoted £770.

Barclays £7400

Admiral- No power increases!

Adrian Flux want engineer reports but they use NU anyway and I have already had a quote from them?

Third party only quotes then. Watch this space.

...I have to pre-empt this...

The car is a 90 na and I'm 50. £363 fully comp, unlimited mileage, wife as extra driver and business use. Got discounts because my wife and son also insure through the co-op.

...and at 50 I get classed as a junior member (on the forum) - makes me laugh.

Hi,

Try 'A Plan' Insurance brokers...they got cover for my import NA through AXA.

JEZ

Andy,

I went through similar heartache at my last renewal. My cheapest quote was Privilege at £2,100 for 430 bhp (weren't interested in mods - just power output).

Adrian Flux where about £400 more. No-one else came close.

Dave. I would be Happy with £2100!!! Works out about right if you have full no-claims. Lost mine so double the price and add a bit for the accident. Tescos are cheapest with the mods at £5400ish.

Bricking me pants

Andy

Andy,

does that include a shopping trolley of groceries?

:-0

Andy:

I beleive its Livingstones that do the engineers report/agreed value stuff. Let me know if they ever get back to you. They dont seem to be bothered about gettin back to me!

Johnny is trying some of his contacts in the Insurance world for me. If it turns out right we'll all be sorted. Cheerz Johnny.

The brokers Im currently with have handed my case to the big boss! I take that as an indication that the 'normal places' dont wanna touch me. As to whether or not he can get us a good deal remains to be seen.

Ill let you know how it goes

Take it eZ
