July usually means MOT time for the Z but due to Covid 19 all test centres are closed. This Z has never failed an MOT and I am slightly angry  that there is this blank space in its MOT history but it does have an exemption till December. But then in December the Z is of the road on a sorn so it will be the Spring before it gets a proper MOT. How is MOT testing in the rest of the UK going are they still open?

Hi Gaz, that’s a bit of a pain isn’t it. We have the same exemption rule but my usual mot place is still doing Mot’s. Some people are deciding to still get them done and some aren’t. Mines due end of July but I’ll probably get it done in late August/early September, after it’s back from Jimmers with the slight oil and power steering leaks fixed.

A pain for a lot of N.I. car owners and our MOT centres have been closed due to cracks found in the car lifts in January !!

Oh yeah I remember reading about this - not good at all [emoji3525]. Hopefully no cars with rusted brake lines and fuel lines driving around!!

Its up to car owners to keep their cars road worthy but you know some will not bother.

You can still drive it while SORN if you pre-book the MOT Gary, at least here you can?

The MOT exemption stops at end of July, so if your MOT is due in August, it will not get extended.

Cant pre book an MOT as site is closed over here  Craig and I believe they might open again in August.

Yes, i meant for end of year, after it is SORNed, you could still book and take it without taking it off SORN.

Mine failed on some minorly stupid things which i didnt get a chance to check before i took it.

Spent the weekend replacing 2 very leaky fuel hoses, and decorating, so i forgot to check all the MOT items once i put the battery on and realised they had degraded since last use.

Thanks for the advice Craig. Mine expires 23rd July so hopefully falls within the time limit of being allowed to extend the deadline.

All of our buses at work have run out of MOT, they are currently on the Covid extension. It was difficult going to the police station the other day to report an RTC with an out of date MOT certificate! ?
