Boot spoiler question-Is there always one from factory-Who has the answer?

Hi All

My TT manual zed doesnt have a rear boot spoiler. I know someone could have removed it, but also wonder if it could have been a delete option at the factory?

The spoiler is the model that does not have the brake light in it - the brake light is in the top of the boot lid.

I would have thought that the turbo models would have had a boot spoiler for the aerodynamics?

Does anyone know if this is the case. Also I will need to source a rear boot spoiler if anyone has one for sale.

Many thanks.

The TT models all came with spoilers and the NA models without, but I’m fairly sure they had an option to add the spoiler. The car was originally designed without the spoiler but testing in the wind tunnel showed some high speed stability issues, thus the fast model emoji51.png got a spoiler added!

Hey thanks very much for replying. Ok someone has removed the spoiler on mine then. Now - where to source another one without the stop light in it ?

Luke, at the Zcentre, sells replica spoilers. You will also find other designs from stores in America. Unfortunately they don’t fit as well as the OEM spoilers.

The OEM are no longer available. You may be VERY lucky and find someone who has an OEM spoiler in their loft but you would need to remortgage to get them to part with it.

The third option would be to repair a used OEM spoiler, as they all tend to “blister” (you can look into the cause of this if you don’t already know about it). I’ve seen a repaired spoiler (Art213), it had been repaired 18 months prior to me seeing it and it looked as good as new. Probably worth messaging him for more details.

Hope this helps,

Chris.

What year is your car? From the factory '89-'93 TT's had the earlier spoiler shown in the first image below, whilst '94 on had the second (so called tea tray) spoiler.

Nissan changed over to the later type because of problems with rotting with the earlier foam based type. Note the third brake light types used for each version, the

earlier one is part of the spoiler itself, the latter one (like yours) is part of the boot lid.

It was this quote that made me think it’s the later model...

Did all “89-“94 JDMs have a brake light where the UK blank is then?

I just confirmed that the car is a 1994 so from the good info on this forum, it would have:

- Had a rear spoiler as it’s a factory TT

- That rear spoiler would have been the boomerang type and the spoiler would not have had a brake light in it.

Great help everyone many Thanks.

I’ve made some contact to try and find one but if anyone has or knows of one for sale please let me know.

Final spoiler question-is this later model spoiler made of the foam material or is it a plastic/fibreglass unit (I’ve never seen one in the flesh).

Thx

They’re solid plastic and do not suffer from moisture ingress like the early spoilers. You’ll likely find that you still have your original bootlid and the original mounting holes have been filled.

Great thanks Ill keep an eye out for one . Can’t wait to get this car back up to a high standard and actually get to DRIVE a Zed [emoji41]
