Hi all, just popping my head over the parapet to see whats going on in here.

Am seriously considering a 300ZX as a next car (loving the TT manual SWB that Torque GT have at the minute but feel its over priced for the current market....)

Right now, I'm driving a Rev 5 MR2 Turbo (the second time I've owned this actual car) and have a history with older Jap metal - Mk1 MX-5s, Evo 5, 350Z, Supra TT, several Mk1 and Mk 2 MR2s, 2x Celica GT-4s etc etc. Had a few tries with some euro stuff that included a Clio 182, M3, Z3M Roadster, TVR Chimera 450 etc - but keep coming back to Japanese metal.

The 300ZX has been on my list (along with others) to own for some time, and I've now started doing my research in ernest.

Looking forward to learning more on here

Michael

I have owned the 90’s Supra turbo MR2’s Celica 4 Turbo, but my favourite has always been the 300zx TT.

Good luck on your search.

That’s a great selection of cars you’ve gone through. Many of them are cars I would have brought but each time I have had the cash in my hand I keep coming back to the 300zx. This is my 3rd and I’ve refined what I like to be a UK manual.

Good luck with your search and as Gaz said wait for the right one and enjoy it. ??

That is up there at the high end of pricing.

I can see a few minor things that would bother me at that price but the two big issues I would have is the collapsing bolster on the driver side seat and the bubbling of the rear spoiler. Both items will cost a fair few pound to put right properly (with new OEM spoilers NLA).

Obviously without driving it there isn’t much else to judge it by. I would like Jim to check it out if I was parting with £15k for a 300 too.

I think for that money there is a black UK car that could be had and I don’t think it has the above issues. ?

?‍♂️ Sorry about that. He did have it up for grabs over the summer but I guess he’s changed his mind.

The second one you’ve posted looks cleaner to me (but again it’s hard to judge with only pictures). There are some very obvious differences between the two cars and a fair few not so obvious differences. Do you know the differences?

I think what might be a good idea is for you to tell us what you want. Your budget looks great and you should be able to find the right car but we could help you more if you told us if you’ve any specific requirements.

For example I love the UK 300zx, white, manual, FSH with heated seats.

Yeah, I'm pretty much up to speed with the differences between the models. Spent too much time at work doing my research.

My preference would be a SWB slicktop manual TT in white.

Must haves are - TT, manual, standard body (not even air intakes in the nose). Zero rust. Good, regular service history. Everything working as it should

Nice to haves - forum owner with a long history of posts about the car, leather, small mods such as intake/exhaust/remap (fully forged engine OK too, but from a good builder with a decent amount of trouble free miles completed..)

Must not be - auto, have a body kit, be rusty, non oem colour

IMO you are much better off making sure the other boxes are ticked (especially the rust one) and then factoring in a manual conversion.

Don't get me wrong, if you find a mint factory manual then great. But manual cars are quite hard to find, so you could be ignoring an otherwise perfect Zeds by going down the No Auto's route.

All the parts for a manual conversion can be had for approx £800+ and with a bit of work you can have yourself a nice solid Zed.

That sound like a great spec! You probably could tick most of those box’s but it’s likely to be a fresh import.

I believe Gorilla Imports are among the preferred importers here. Also it would be worth getting in touch with Jim at PowerZed. There aren’t many good 300zx in the country that Jim doesn’t know about and he would probably be the first to know about any potential cars coming onto market.

As for the auto box I have to say that I think you should stick to your guns on that. I considered an auto conversion on a car I wanted and the idea just didn’t sit well with me.

Mine is factory leather and I've still got them and am keeping but over the years I've grown to very much like the velour seats and trim that were fitted to series 2 ?.
