I’ve a few bits and bobs getting powder coated and when I dropped them off the owner said that the OEM look would probably be semi gloss. Does this sound right to you guys or should it be full gloss?

Cheers,

Chris.

Yes a satin black for scuttles, radio console, arch liners, interior trim pieces, etc, what bits and bobs....engine bay ?

Just loom brackets, light fixings, battery tie, PS oil cooler and clamps, OC and HICAS base plates, bumper fixing etc... 38 pieces in all but will also want to do the more obvious stuff when I get to that area but want all the bits to match.

Hi Chris,

I second the satin black choice too...… But I'd probably ditch that PS oil cooler. Mine looked like that, but was rusted far further through than I though - so it ended up leaking. After speaking to JeffTT, I removed it completely and joined the pipes together. Jeff advised that he'd never heard of the PS fluid overeating (in any car for that matter) - it's just typical Nissan over-engineering. And it's in a poor location for exposure to rain etc., which exacerbated the corrosion!

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Not necessarily - Nissan added additional coolers for Euro spec cars after high speed testing on German autobahns. In the case

of the PS system the mechanical pump is designed to provide full flow at, or very close to, engine idle speed (needed for example

with low engine revs and parking). As engine revs increase and are maintained (high speed driving) more and more fluid is being

pumped around the (open spool) system. As such, the oil heats rapidly, and can without additional cooling overheat and cavitate

resulting in PS performance degredation and/or failure.

Granted that for most everyday driving the cooler is probably unnecessary, but Nissan would have been conservative for their

specifications for the European market.

If you track/race your car adequate PS cooling is something to bear in mind. Here is a post on TT.net with folks experiencing PS

failures through overheating when using their cars on the track:

Thanks for your input Richard. Jim has also said that the cooler, for my driving needs, is unnecessary. However I thought it would be nice to see if the cooler is salvageable as I doubt they’ll be any evidence that this system was fitted to UK spec cars soon. After it’s been blasted and coated I’ll get it pressure tested before refitting it.

Thanks for the link Andrew, I’ll read that later. ?

Good point Chris - and THB I'd probably have kept mine for the originality aspect too, had the damn thing not started leaking....?
