Hi all,

I have a manual gearbox to install.

I purchased an Exedy Pro-Kit (complete clutch kit)

i want a lightweight flywheel but have been informed that I need to purchase a whole new clutch kit & L/w flywheel.

Has anyone bought a lightweight flywheel separate & fitted it with this clutch kit I’ve purchased?

Hi Andrew,

I was informed that a lightweight flywheel is not compatible with the kit I have purchased.

I have seen a kit advertised by techniclutch in Lancashire who appear to sell the same set up as my purchase but with a XTD lightweight flywheel.

When I spoke to them yesterday they said the clutch & lightweight flywheel had to be purchased together! But I cannot see a difference.

Also XTD 5.7kg pro-light flywheel sold by XTDclutchuk separately says non turbo.

Then XTD pro-light racing clutch flywheel sold by  aimcoclutch 90-96 300zx TT $200 inc shipping which is much better than £400 for a whole new kit.  So a little confused.

Many thanks

Art

Yes it is 06046 !

As the 06046 is sold as an OEM replacement clutch which will therefore work with a stock flywheel I can't see why

it won't work with an aftermarket TT flywheel (lightweight or otherwise) that is machined to the same dimensional

specifications as the stock TT flywheel. Provided both clutch and flywheel have been properly balanced seperately then

they should work fine together.

Just bear in mind Art that the weight or rather mass of the flywheel has function, it’s mass is to carry inertia and make the transition from stop start smoother and keep the engine turning. I’m not saying you will notice but you might be paying for something that doesn’t give YOU a desirable benifit. Bearing in mind iirc you wish for your car to be a cruiser rather than a angry thing. Just something to consider.

Do NOT fit that lightweight flywheel by XTD or any other like it.The ring gear is rubbish and chews up !

Sound advice from the Zed guru......:classic_cool:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

This is why I like this forum!

thank you  all.

i have just ordered from Z1 a TT lightweight flywheel  which they have confirmed it is compatible.

I see that Z1 have two TT lightweight flywheels - a MK1 and Mk2 version. Which one did you go for?

Hi Andrew,

I ordered the Mk 1 I assume as it states the "old style" 4140 forged steel at 11.3 Ibs

Jimmer are all lightweight flywheels for the Z no good? Am I better off putting the old OEM flywheel on?

Ive only got a standard TT no power upgrades.

The SPZ fw is very good but many of the others are very poor. The Z1 version is the same as the XTD,The ring gear is soft and wears quickly in my experience.Id stick with stock in your case being honest.

Hello All,

Auto to Manual-conversion, is it worth the hassle and how long does it take to do?

Also do you need different turbos going from Auto to Manual, if so would you reckon on bigger turbos or is this a waste of money.

Got a spare engine and gearbox waiting to go in, just time and know how needed. Would you ship this project out and at what cost?

Can anyone please advise.

Cheers

Colin

It would take maybe a weekend? You don't need new turbos. Putting the clutch pedal in the interior is a bit of a faff, and changing the pilot bearing to the manual one can be a pain. But other than that and a bit of wiring. Its just like a gearbox swap.

Is it worth it? Well I couldn't stand the auto so imo yes.

I like the autobox I just wished it was not so old and therefore unreliable.

I have gone through 3 of them!

So I have a full manual conversion waiting to be fitted.

hoping to have the Z back on the road for March !

a good move, I had a autobox die on me got it converted to manual and had no issues since, also more fun

So did I so jeff did a manual conversion for me. I've said before that the manual makes you realise just how power you've got but perversely it also makes you realise just how good the auto box is at giving the power smoothly
