Hi Guys

I'm having an indecisive moment so need some help. I have some BMW 850 Brembo Calipers (40 and 44mm Pistons) which are in need of a refurb and will cost me about £350 all in as I already have the adaptors, discs and pads. Disc size increases to 345mm which fits behind my current wheels fine. Do I get these refurbed or do I just upgrade to better discs and pads on the standard calipers?

Car is used for a bit of country road blasting every now and again so £1000+ kits are a total waste of money. Just want something to give a bit more confidence in the brakes than what is currently on as its by no means confidence inspiring haha

Thanks for input

Luke

Up grade the standard brakes is my opinion mate. Less hassle.

That's what I'm swaying more towards as its much easier to get done, plus there doesn't seem to be any where that shows a huge improvement of bigger brakes over standard when using daily

I've heard of using 350z discs but these are adaptors again

Yes unless you are going to use your car as a track car then no need for big brakes imo.

I agree too... When the OEM brakes are working properly, they are more than good enough for normal road use. The age, weight and performance of these cars does take its toll on the brakes over time - and as most Zeds are now 25-30 years old, they will most certainly need a refurb.

Rebuild your stock calipers, fit some decent vented/grooved discs and high quality pads. Replace the fluid - even consider upgrading to SS-braided hoses and you'll really notice the difference!

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

I'm lucky that the calipers have already been rebuilt and already have SS lines. Fluid flush and new discs and pads is all I will need so a nice easy job for a weekend.

Only reason I was thinking about going bigger is the 530bhp is a little more than standard haha

Appreciate the input guys :)

If you are looking for better brake feel apparently a brake cylinder brace makes a big difference on these cars. I threw one on a parts order from Specialty Z a while back but did not realise they only did the LHD version and the RHD version is no longer produced. I am sure you could get something fabricated though.... http://www.300degree.com/hard_parts/RHbrakebrace/

It is on my to-do list to have my LHD bracket modified to suit.

I've only got two now, one as in photo and one with the lower in black power coat (I'll see if I can it and take a photo)

I made a few of these some time a go

I had one of these off you in 2016.

I sold it after I got rid of my last Zed. Wish I held onto it now :pinch:

Yes, let me find the other one so you can see. Because of club rules I can't sell in the club. I can use eBay of some thing else

I've just spent the last 20 minutes looking at Akebono kits, which is way overkill for my needs.

Iain if you're interested in selling both of the master cylinder braces, then I am also interested in buying one (again).

As for the OP, there is a good sticky on brake upgrades somewhere, it's definitely worth a read if you haven't come across it already.

Cool, love them both but that's the winner for me, what do you want for it

(if you become a member of course:) )

Thank you for your interest in my work, at the moment I have a large project on the go which is taking a lot of my time so I would not be able to make a batch until next year when I have more time.

As there are more two people interested in the two I have I thought it would be better if they chose, so I have listed both on ebay ( https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/223712843334 ), ( https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/223712849902 )

I shall let people know when I able to make another batch in the new year.

Note to Mod's I hope this is O.K. , if not please let my know.

I won one of these on eBay last week... Saves me the task of having my RHD one modified.

Looking forward to getting them on the car
