It is a bit frustrating driving a 155mph car and never ever getting anywhere near this speed.

So I did a bit of sniffing around, and discovered there are sessions at Elvington airfield, near York, in which people can explore higher speeds. The runway is a staggering 1.8 miles in length, and the tests are over 1 mile, with 0.8 to stop in. (See https://straightliners.events). As many runs as you like during the day. I am told bikes have exceeded 250mph...

Has anywhere used this facility? Any comments on the surface?

Could be interesting... :-)

I was on the DeLorean test track at Dunmurry in Belfast and hit 88 mph then the serious sxxx happened :w00t:

Not used Elvington, but have done a Vmaxx event at Bruntingthorpe in the Z. Great surface there and used more regularly the Elvington so I think it’s better maintained

Elvington charge about £160 per day to join the fun. Is the Bruntithorpe price similar? Elvington also specify one has to wear a bone dome, which strikes me as a bit odd. Perhaps they should have been supplied as standard with the car!

Ther is an event called Time Attack at Elvington. I don't know whenm it is but that might be worth considering

Ive run at Ten of the Best at Elvington a couple of times, the surface is good, i got to 135mph in the flying kilometer, other competitors got over the 200mph mark with no drama.

Straighliners are a very professional set of lads, very good timing equipment etc so i would reccomend you try it, maybe see if a few others want to join you.
