Peugeot Fake Exhaust Sound Produced by the Speakers [LOL]

Posted

So had my first drive in a new Peugeot 3008 as a passenger, seemed a little over the top inside, tacky almost with the multi led ambient light strips and settings. but was ok, then the driver said oh it has sport mode too, listen to this................ OMG it did not have sport mode at all ! it Has Fake Exhaust Sound Produced by the Speakers what a crap idea that is, sounded like s?hit and the worst of all the completely clueless owner did not realise .... classic

Piped exhaust noise has been a thing for a number of years now, quite a few manufacturers use it however with varying degrees of success, the Peugeot system you experienced sounds hilarious!

Lol cant believe the owner was so clueless. Just back from Portugal Jeff and I did notice that every other car on the road is a Peugeot !

Modern Fords come with an App that allow you to choose different sounds. A friend uses the V8 setting on his...the speaker is outside under the car and matches engine RPM.

They are a far cry from the old days, I do miss my old 205 GTi sometimes, that was a hoot to drive!!

I think the last car they made that I liked was the 406 Coupe...

Agreed - but then even BMW uses it in the M4, which IMO, is a decent car.... Pretty crap, though when you think the car sounds good, but then you open the window...

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Thats a little different. Rather than a fake engine noise, It amplifies the M4 engine Induction/exhaust back into the cabin so the driver can hear it over the modern soundproofing. The M4 sounds great outside the car.

BMW do that to drown out the noise of all the bits falling off it. The warranty claims we go through with our used car operation is getting beyond a joke.

Peugeot make a good car these days, the 3008 is a great car. Shits all over anything Land Rover can put out too.

Also they are reliable https://www.motoringresearch.com/car-news/jd-power-uk-vehicle-dependability-2019/ finishing at the top of the JD Power survey for dependability.

A lot of the German manufacturers perform abysmally and unsurprisingly BMW are in last place.

I agree - and don't agree mate....!

A friend at work replaced his c43 AMG for an M4; and whilst the M4 was without doubt the better car (it's a competitor to the c63, after all), it never sounded as good. That's where I drew my comment from; he took me out a few times and whilst the car sounded good inside, when we opened the windows, it did not sound half as good... His c43 (and my slc43) sounded way better!!

Might be to do with the BM being a straight-6 and the Mercs being a v6.

I still do like the M4 though, don't get me wrong, and would indeed buy one myself!

Unless of course you want/need 4wd.... In that case it certainly doesn't mate - I don't dispute that Peugeot has upped its game, but the 3008 was not available in 4wd, last time I looked!

They have grip control which is more than enough for normal road use, if you really need a proper 4x4 you would not by a Land Rover unless its a Defender of course

Yup - I still would, if I'm honest mate.....

Still living on the Defender's reputation; yes. But able to go where other 4x4s struggle - a Land Rover or Range Rover will probably do it. Only last year, during a period of heavy snow, I paid a visit to our work's yard. The access road is up a steep incline - which early that morning was covered in a sheet of ice. No-one had driven up it - some of my colleagues had tried, in (for example) a Ford Ranger, a Ford Kuga with awd, and a Rav-4 - and failed.... I did wonder why they had left their cars at the bottom and walked up. When I had breezed straight to the top without issue in Julia's Evoque, without even bothering to engage snow/ice mode...

Granted, days like that are few and far between - and yes, I'd LOVE a Defender (a nice SWB V8 would make me very happy) - but I would still buy any LR..... Apart from the fugly new (and stupidly expensive) Discovery. What were they thinking:lol::oops:
