here's a good one, i asked my local Nissan dealer to do my tracking (Grantham) and they said i should ring the local Honds dealer since they might be able to do it, so i rang them and they said they could if the local Nissan dealer would lend them the special tool for locking the back wheels (due to the HICAS) which the local Nissan dealer responded that they didn't have such a tool. Ahhhhhhh! so i took the Z to a local tyre place who reckoned they could do the 4 wheel tracking, and the car is even worse that before now............ so my question is, where do you lot take you're Z's to have the tracking done (ideally a response from anyone Lincolnshire based would be good, but i don't care where in the country really since it gives me an excuse to go out for a drive)

Cheers.

I goto a place in bolton who do a indipendent 4 wheel tracking by lazer. Some places when they do the rear wheels allign them using the fronts as reference but these do it correctly.

They do a good job in it. Last time they took an hour to do it, but its all done proppery, on a ramp with lazers and they check the camber and adjust it if it needs it and can be adjusted.

Costs about £28 to do, but its well worth it.

(BIG BREATH) Well,

Yesterday, I made about 8 phone calls to various different tyre, places including Kwik Fit and other so called 4 wheel tracking speacialists and they all said, "Yes sir, we can do your car - oh hang on, is it 4 wheel steer?", to which I obviously replied "Yes". The reply was, "Oh, in that case, no. Speak to your main dealer".

Nissan is Chesterfield have just lost the franchise and the Land Rover garage that has taken it on, doesn't yet have the tools. Nissan at Nottingham dont do it. There isn't a Nissan at Derby any more, Burton, is too far, Sheffield are shite and I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole.....BUT.....the Nissan at Notts recomended a place in Nottingham that they send all their Zs to called The 4 wheel alignment centre and they have a £20K machine that does it all. It measures the camber, toe ins, allignment, the job lot. The best thing about it is that it's only £31+VAT but it does take 45 minutes.

The number is 0115 942 0843 and the guys name is Mick. The address is:-

I know it's cheap anyway but if a few of you want it doing, then maybe we could get some discount if we do a block booking. Let me know if any of you are interested in doing this.

thanx for the replies, i'll take her down to notts me thinks.

I spoke to a place Promax who prepare race cars which is down this way and they reckon it takes about 2.5 hours to do camber, caster, toe, tracking etc. Cost about £70.

Dunno, i'm going there to get mine done,

I think it will be a top notch job, with my car being lowered and having a decent suspension set up I reckon some where like this would know how to set the car up really well to make the most of the components on the car.

If you lot decide to book this count me in big time. My car is a right bitch to drive at moment, really needs sorting!

The reason you probably get so bad wear on your tyres is becuase of the cambre on your wheels ;)

My old tyres warn down in under 8000miles, but the inside had plenty. After I got the tracking done the tyres started wearing evenly but because they where already that bad they didnt last much longer.

My new tyres are wearing very well. I think the outside is wearing slightly more than the inside, which is to expected by the way I drive. :D

I think they charge £25 for the check and for an hours work if needed. Its £25 an hour after that.

The longest it has taken me was 45 mins and during that time thry adjusted the front toe and the rears where toeing in too.

They can change the camber if they can, ie, if the car can, but I think that takes longer. I went to them thinking that my canber was out when my rear tyres where wearing badly, it ended up to be toeing in and they said 1º combined toe in may not sound like much but, combine that with soft sports tyres, powerful car and rear wheel drive and it amkes a big difference.

You get a nice print out of the values before they started, what it should be and then a print out of what it was after they finished.

There is one in Warrington that does it. Its a Porsche dealer, but they charge £65 to do it then £40 an hour for adjusting.

Thought I'd drag this up from the past as I am ready to go and have the 4 wheel allignment done. Does anyone want to join me and see if we can get it a bit cheaper.

It's only £35ish anyway but we might get it for £30.

Cheers

Cos

im defo gonna need a 4 wheel alignment needed cos im having the hicas rack thing changed, plus i'll be in nottingham anyway cos im going uni there.

thing is my car wont be back from the garage for maybe 3 weeks so let me know when you're going to do it and hopefully i'll be able to make it.

I actually found some one very local to me who do 4 wheel tracking too. Very handy as its only 5 mins away instead of 25 miles away.

Its well worth doing. I get a 4 wheel track done every year now.

Stuart

I reckon me and SRRAE have used the same place in Bolton - Thistlethwaites tyres - very good and friendly service - took 45 mins and u get the before and after printout to keep - made a hell of a difference to both the handling and general drivability of the car - I was trashing the inside edges of my tyres but should be fine now!

Highly recommended.

Just a possible warning before you all take the trip up here !

May have changed now but when I've tried to get mine done there in the past they said they couldn't do it because it was modified from standard, so they had no record of what settings it needed.

The equipment is pretty flash though and I've heard good reports from people who've taken standard cars there.

Worth a quick call to make sure they will work on modified setups.

:x:

Shouldnt really effect the setting should it? If you get larger wheels it will effect the cambre usually making it more negative than it should be. You should then put it back to what the stock vaule is. Sould be the same with the tracking too.

Stuart

I didn't argue, I just went elsewhere.

Midland Magneto did optical four wheel alignment for me and that made the ride much smoother, whether by luck or judgement :)
