Well I watched BJ's speech made outside No10 yesterday and experienced something I've not

felt in the 3 grinding years of TM's disaster as PM - Optimisim! I found myself smiling.

Me too..... but probably not for the same reasons I'm afraid.

Time will tell I guess, I will observe the coming months with interest.

I do hope you are right Andrew, I sincerely do.

Boris is probably glad he didn't get the job three years ago.... To be honest, whoever succeeded David Cameron was really on a hiding to nothing; it was a poisoned chalice.

Nonetheless I still agree with you Andrew; although I did initially feel optimistic when Theresa May took the job, as I was hoping for "Iron Lady Mk2." Sadly that did not happen - for whatever reason - but this time the government (and Boris) has a second chance to put things right.... :clover:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Without a strong majority in parliament, surely Boris will face the same issues?

Is it the person? or is it the strength of the house that will determine the outcome?

It will be an interesting few weeks to say the least.

Right, since you've asked for it, here's an extension to the deadline you triggered. Please don't waste this time

OK lads, knives out, lets blow a few weeks on a leadership contest decided by 100k old duffers then b*gger off on holiday.

Good question - and you're right; only time will tell.... Theresa May's biggest downfall, was to call a general election that most of the public didn't want. She was ill-advised, riding on the crest of a new popularity wave and simply did not lead an effective campaign. She should by rights have secured a stronger majority - but said ill advice, complacency and failure to address key issues during that poor campaign, led to her support crumbling away in the last crucial days leading up to polling day.

That's a great reply Richard, do you think Theresa was a little pre occupied with being an elected PM as opposed to a shoe in so to speak.

I'm guessing, as you say, Theresa was gambling on securing a large/larger majority in the house and ended up with virtually a hung parliament leaving herself quit impotent in reality.

Lets hope Boris has the ability to turn things around.

I do indeed mate.... Gordon Brown was in the same position when he succeeded Tony Blair - he rode on the crest of the new popularity wave too. The press dubbed it the "Brown Bounce" but then he bottled it in that autumn and decided against calling an election - probably rightly so! We often forget that in this country we don't vote for the PM, we vote for our local MP and the party we prefer in a general election.

So I agree mate - let's hope things turn out right this time around. Otherwise the British pubic will fall further out of love with our political system!!

Indeed, so many people seem to think we live in a country with a presidential system.
