Hi, hoping someone can help with this, as I don't fancy driving to the AGM this weekend with a fubard temp gauge.

The other day i took the binnacle out to add a set of titanium rings to the instrument cluster. I noticed this morning on my drive to work that the temp gauge sits a 1/4, even when the car is switched off, and didn't move, during the 16 mile commute.

Could it be that i just need to reset the needle to its resting point?

Any pointers greatly received, thanks guys.

Did you try hitting it a small thump to see if it resets?

I did indeed Gaz.

The harness connectors on the back of the gauge panel have all been correctly seated?

Pretty sure they 'snapped' in ok Andrew, as I did initially have an issue with the illumination around the dials, so doubled/tripled checked the connections.

I have ordered one of these now, as I did not like being reliant on the OEM gauge, and I had previously removed the other DEFI gauges from my 'A' pillar.

A bit more work to do now before the AGM.

I have read in older posts, that the rings can occasionally inhibit the needle's movement.... Is the RH side of the needle fouling - even slightly - on the ring, if the internal diameter of the gauge has been compromised...?

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

That will be it, got caught out myself years ago, the fuel gauge needle was stuck at the quarter tank point, ran out of fuel on the way back from JAE as a result !

I think it's the rings too. On the outer edge, there's additional material coloured black, you can see by the shadowing and looking at the MPH needle. It's the black over moulded plastic that's wedged on the dial ring.

Thanks for all the useful info guys. The rings will be staying, as the two small ones will not come out without a fight, plus i really like them.

Does the 'needle' just pull out? so I can just carefully sand down the needle to give a bit of clearance?

No need to sand the needle, with mine they were glued in with a touch of super glue at the back, so took the one off, repositioned it to give clearance and re glued in place all sorted, some did click into place rather than need adhesive or tape though, either way its doable, avoid removing needles it can lead to a world of pain.

Jeff, I had to sand down the outer edge of the ring to get it to fit into the opening. It certainly didn't need any glue. I will take it all apart and see whats the best solution. Thansk for the info on NOT removing the needles.

Needles can be removed with a fork :).

Thanks Andy

All fixed last night guys. I ended up carefully sanding off a small part of the needle to give the necessary clearance from the Titanium ring.

Thanks for everyone’s input
