I think someone who's been in the theatre of war, has the right to comment about a coming war. It was, afterall, in jest.

Why have a go at Timmi ? - would you have the balls to go ??

Let's listen to someone who has been there:

Both the above were from a serving British Officer. As was the following statement:

I remember reading Siegfried Sassoon and Wilfred Owen at school, too young to appreciate it then.

But seriously folks, I think a change in regime in Iraq would be a good thing, mainly for the people in Iraq. I believe this is the most plausible reason for 'going to war'.

I don't think that it's going to be done for that reason though.

I don't thing the Mugabie (Spelling?) issue is the same thing though. He maybe trying to kill millions, but Sadam HAS killed millions.

The French / Germans / Russians are opposed to the war for their own selfish reasons, trade etc, in the same way that we / Americans want the War for our own ends.

Basically I think it's all being done for the wrong reasons.

I hope all this makes so sort of sense!

Mike

As a fully paid up Grauniad reader, I take great exception to that clipping from the right wing fascist rag.

It's so wrong - I would never drink a Chilean chardonnay. Their Carbernet Sauvignon is a much better wine.

10 outta 10 mate. :D :D

Im not playing anymore,:)~~~

I agree though Nelson, everyone has a right comment. Cutting and pasting the Sun shows real intellectual clout too. Im impressed :)

Im just flicking through the Beano as we speak, gaining useful knowledge on subjects as wide ranging as global imperialism, OPEC trade routes, totalitarianism, and The Bash Street Kids.

Can I have my ball back now mister, it was Timmy who kicked it over you fence mister, honest.. please mister... boo im going to cry.

For all the people who dont want the war.... what the fvuck are you going to say WHEN he slings a bio weopon at isreal or someone else? its all very well saying dont do it, but once its done theyll all be saying " err perhaps we should have done something earlier" fvckin doo gooders.. too many of em.

as for that comment about being "dumb enough to join the military", these "dumb" people are the ones protecting our asses.

You will probably find Senna's upset was the way in which this thread was started and not whether we should go to war or not and I back him up on that. I personally think the start of the thread was distasteful.

Many people are upset on the idea of war without having to read how someone is looking forward to the event and boasting how they are going to watch it on TV.

Like others have stated in this thread, we don't have the "true" data to even begin to decide whether its the correct decision or not.

Probably because no-one reported it. (There's a "report to a moderator" link over on the right.)

On a wider issue, the forum is / has been going through a change from free to paid for. Some think that everything is allowable cos the internet should be about free speech. Some think that everyone needs to sign up to be a Buddha before they can post.

The truth is probably somewhere inbetween. It is difficult for us moderators to decide what is allowable without reactions from members. The risk is that we start to impose our own standards on others which is not what this forum is for.

If you want to kick off a debate on an other thread about what you think should / should not be "acceptable behaviour" that might be helpful. But there will be wild over-reactions so wear a thick skin.

Cheers - Gio

I have kept out of this but I was shocked when I read it. People go ballistic when jokes about pedos where on here cos they have children, but its OK to make fun of killing of hundreds, thousands maybe tens of thousands of people? People will lose their homes, livelyhood, people will lose mums and dads. Parents will lose children.

I really dont think that Timmy Turbo is really wanting war to start, but it shocks me what people will accept jokes about 1 thing then not about another.

This is nothing personal agains you Timmy, like I said, I think you REALLY want a war to start out.

Stuart

I think the key word is JOKES! The world is grim enough, humour gets us through it. Timmy was being funny (is funny). Most posts on here are! Yes there are sensitive subjects, but like I said, humour gets us through it.

Like I said earlier, I have been to the Persian Gulf twice. I don't want this to kick off but all I was implying is that I'm personally glad that I don't have to go through those experiences again.

Can I have my ball back please Mrs??? :D

I know I got what you meant you did us proud out there ;)

Watching Question Time and people are saying that we are going to bomb innocent women and children in Iraq.

When has the intention or implication involved bombing innocent women and children in Iraq?

Wasn't it Saddam who agreed to pull out of Kuwait last time leading the coalition into a complete and utter false sense of security and in his frustration and anger set light to all the oil wells. Also severing oil pipe lines that would release oil into the sea to fcuk the water sanitation plants up starving the Kuwait people of fresh water for drinking etc.???

Yes, granted, there were some major fcuk ups last time and some of those lives lost were our own troops killed with friendly fire. A-10 Tankbuster incident springs to mind where the muppet yanks blew up two of our trucks carrying OUR guys!!!

But it just shows how much of a false grip on reality the majority of our public have on what has or is going to happen if it all kicks off.

No one wants to bomb innocent people but war's not some clinical sterile operation where the bad guy gets hurt and everyone else is hunky dorey.

Saddam's a vile person. More so for what he does to his "own" people than some perceived global threat that we use as the excuse to actually start the war. START the war, not join in to right some wrong that someone else has done.

I would like nothing better than to see Saddam removed and a benign democracy grow out of nothing. Unfortunately, our only option to get rid of Saddam or his sick offspring that will surely follow him to power, is to go to war and help in the installation of a subsequent government. Now on balance, is this really going to hurt and kill less innocent people than the dickhead can manage on his own? And is it going to provide a more stable middle-east than the existing one which is a breeding ground for resentment of the West and, therefore, terrorism?

I would dearly love to see the back of Saddam. But blindly following another person I would dearly love to see the back of into war is not necessarily the right way, however noble, just and good-intentioned the cause may seem.

Anyway, I'm going back to my beer.

Love and hugs.

Mike

[Edited 'coz beer doesn't help my spelling!]

About time, wise words from the Mikester! ;)

It's beer mate! Won't remember writing those words tomorrow. How's things Timski? Not had a chat for ages.

And I've just read what I wrote, complete with spelling mistakes. Just hoping Ajay doesn't read everything in detail anymore!

LOL :D

I'm good matey, how are you? Have you had that bun out of the oven yet homes???

Or have I missed that event entirely?

Are you gonna come to the North West meet bud?

Nope, still baking nicely. Official date is 6th July.

What northwest meet? Maybe I should be arsed to check the event board! I may be tempted to come if it's not in that nasty country that's got your island bolted onto it! Hang on, I'm just going to go and check...

Yep! Sounds good! I even see Nelson may be going so it's bound to be a laugh. May even bring our preggars.

Been on Amstel, San Miguel and Murphys tonight. Lovely combination. Going to stay in front of this computer 'till I run out of Murphys!

LMFAO :D :D

Island bolted onto it indeed! Although some are now claiming that it's not an island! FFS!

What is an island by definition then? Land mass surrounded by water last time I checked, but coz it has two bridges connecting it to the Father Land it's not a sodding Island. Is Senna Jameson in charge of the national geology survey then? ROFL :D

This is the problem isnt it. Since the second world war it has become socially unaceptable to kill civillians (and correctly so) but people like saddam or bin laden do not have such restrictions, they will even slaughter their own people ffs so how do you tackle someone who has a totally different set of rules. Terrorist attacks on British civillians are becoming a real threat and if it happens then it will be our government i will blame for allowing it to happen. I have seen Muslims on the news openly celebrating the attack on the twin towers and preaching hate to the western world in the streets of our capital city FFS!!! Try shouting support for Tony Blair on the streets of Baghdad and see what happens, Arrest torture and execution spring to mind. Its time for people to decide which side of the fence they sit on.

The murder of the police officer by an asylum seeker should have taught us a valuable lesson.

I really hope there is NO WAR but caring for peoples welfare begins at home. If I had to choose between the heavy bombing of Iraq or a car bomb exploding in a busy London street then it would be NO CONTEST!
