Has anyone suffered zero heat from their heater system? My actuator can be heard working so I can assume that something has become disconnected or broken preventing the blend door from opening to let hot air in.

I can't remember from when I did a dash pull and want to avoid it if I can (although it's a fairly easy job what side the actuator is on. In photos of LHD cars they're the passenger side, so can assume that they're mirrored for RHD Z32s?

FSM gives me the following:

It states manual air conditioner but there are solenoids present so I'm slightly confused. Has anyone else dealt with this issue before? Did you need to do a dash pull? What was broken or had the rod become detached from the actuator?

Even though the term “manual” is used for the non digital climate control cars, the system for changing air direction etc is still entirely electronic, so the solenoids are still used.

From memory I eant to say you can still get the the HVAC flaps from the pass side floor well, but it’s been a while since I’ve been under the dash

If you can hear a repetitive clicking sound, then it is most likely the actuator gear is split.

You can get to the air mix assembly by removing the glove box Simon. You can see the actuator and rods nestled by the firewall on the side of the heater box. In my case (manual ac) the dial for setting air flow to windscreen cabin, feet etc was working ok but the heat control hot to cold was not. This turned out to be the air mix ecu ( drivers footwell mounted up on heater box) its NLA and was a PITA to find. Dutchgold tipped me off to an eBay links in Malaysia of all places to get mine. It all works great now. I have the old ecu and wondered if there was anywhere i could get it repaired.

Jeff, thanks, no I can't hear it clicking but can hear the motor.

Ian, I don't think it's the ECU as the control is making the actuator work. I'll pull out this glove box at the weekend.

Thank you all.

Do you mean heat position or air direction Si

Heat position. I'm S1 also, so have no air direction other than screen or non-screen.

Heat position.

On mine that is controlled by the ecu, everything else worked apart from control of the heat. But yours being s1 is likely to be very different, also if it is ecu you have a good chance of a replacement

As mentioned, when I change the temperature, I can hear a motor working behind the dash, so can assume that that part of the system is working correctly, so I believe it would either be a broken or disconnected rod/arm.
