Suspect Coolant leak from Radiator - Any 300zx Specialists in the West Midlands

Hi Z World Team,

I would like help locating a 300zx Specialist in the West Midlands, or a competent alternative, I have a suspect coolant leak from the radiator or a coolant pipe, i spoke to a reputed garage, they told me to find someone who knows what they are doing. Ideally a garage that deals with the AA, because they pay £500 of the bill.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards

MalikLFC

That's not a difficult job to be honest the AA shoukd be able to give you a list of garages. The rad and pipes are easy to get to compared to modern cars

Auto or Manual ?

Jap or UK

It is a UK TT AUTO

Best thing to do is advertise on here for one Radiator required, Uprated or Standard to suit a UK Manual, Buy a silicone radiator hose kit from ebay for 25 quid, and 5 litres of OAT antifreeze ready mix coolant from Halfords for 22 quid, If you cant fit it yourself, nip over, allow an hour , drive away.

Also, would it be worth changing the thermostat at the same time or is that a big job?

I live in Codsall, WV8 area, the rest ill send you by text when you are ready, The thermostat is a big job and needs the front of the engine to be stripped down, the Thermostat is normally done when changing the cambelt and at the same time the water pump, this is because it is so time consuming to strip the front of the engine to allow access that it is foolish not to do them all at the same time,

Fantastic, I'll buy the bits and let you know when they have arrived.

I believe the timing belt and water pump have been done by the previous owner not sure about the thermostat though, I'll ask him.

OAT anti freeze ! oh no, not correct, old style Bluecol is more than enough quality and spec wise, also a manual rad will leave him with no cooler for the autobox.

Hi Jeff, Many thanks for your comments, I have to order the Rad from the States because I can't find an auto rad in the UK, I might try zcentre and see what they say.

Hi Jeff. I thought the UK manuals had a separate cooler in the nose.

No, the UK auto rad has cooler for the gearbox in both side headers and the import auto rad only one side, the UK does have an additional cooler in the nose area but that is for the power steering, the oil cooler for the engine on UK cars is bigger than imports.

Of course you can fit a manual radiator but will need to fit a separate new auto box cooler which actually is not a bad thing.

Hi, many thanks, how much do you want for it?

How does £30 plus the postage sound

If that's ok I'll weigh it and Hermes it tomorrow for you

I ran the car for a while and there were no leaks or problems with it

I concur - not that I would contradict Jeff on such matters, since he is a true Zed-guru - but I had a radiator leak back in 2016. Sadly the UK-spec Auto radiator is no longer available new. Anywhere!!

The J-spec version is; however the auto-box oil cooling facility in that is seriously inadequate over here. I ended up buying a new Mishimoto radiator with the optional [separate] auto-box oil cooler. Not cheap in the end, but worth it!

Still, if you can buy a decent second hand OEM replacement, go for it! Your choices are otherwise limited!!

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:
