It’s a strange one. I absolutely ****ing hate seeing creepy guys leering, shouting and cat calling girls. It makes my blood boil. However there has been a number of posts from grid girls themselves who have lost a job they love staying in some cases it has actually enabled them to get a foot in the door of motorsports and in some cases even compete in the sport they were previously promoting. They also (and rightly so) point out that rather than punish girls by removing them from jobs and a sport they like the focus should be on educating cretinous individuals that abuse of women is not OK. The real issue is men’s behaviour and not the women. We’re not all asexual, if we did the human race wouldn’t exist so there needs to be a focus on the difference between sexuality and abuse.

I read this yesterday and thought it was ridiculous. A big part of F1 is the glitz and glamour. It's literally being stripped of its assets.

 

I agree - please, we're all grown-ups and, as men, we have evolved from the cave-men of the 1970s. As long as the girls are willing to do the job; and are not exploited (or worse), then what's the problem..?

Seriously though Liberty Media and Chase Carey has got this wrong. I believe its a step backwards for F1 with a key element of the Sunday race day missing. No Grid girls no girl line up to the winners podium its just not F1. Will they stop the spraying of expensive champagne next or take away the petrol engine and use an electric race car! Oh wait they have started that and how exciting is that to listen to and watch. :thumbdown:

Can I just add a post by Michelle Westby a professional drifter & stunt driver & ex pit girl & model, I think she makes a very valid point:

 

I wasn’t going to get involved in this whole ban of grid girls debate as I felt all the girls were handling it great but recently seen some comments which really have got my blood boiling like ‘ they have no purpose, intelligence , or even knowledge of cars / racing ‘ and ‘ about time they got a proper job’ First of all the majority of the girls working on the grid have a very strong interest in racing and like myself got involved in pit duties where possible and even used my time at race events to learn and better my knowledge of cars and racing ! Also most girls do this work as extra money when again like myself already had a very good full time job and or at uni studying . Most these girls are far from just a pretty face ! People have forgot the saying don’t judge a book by its cover . The most important point I’d like to get across is in fact that if it wasn’t for grid work / promotional modelling I wouldn’t be where I am now in a ‘males dominated ‘ sport / job as a Stunt Driver / Drift Competition Driver inspiring and influencing females into this ‘ intimidating male environment ‘ I get girls message me all the time saying how I inspire them and made them want to try get into racing / drifting when they didn’t want to before thinking girls wouldn’t be accepted as much . Now I hear all the negative people ask how on earth standing on a grid looking ‘pretty’ helped ...... well I had always been into cars and racing but like most girls I didn’t think I could due to not being male and also finances , it was thanks to European Drift Championship giving me a job as a grid girl that helped with that . I saw drifting for the first time and thought seriously I would love to do that , after talking to drivers they all supported me and advised me how to start up myself , from then on I used their advise to start myself up and then further grid work helped me finance it . Again what most people don’t realise the girls have knowledge of the products / teams they are promoting , that’s part of the job ! We also always get a brief on what our uniform will be , it’s then up to us if we feel comfortable in it but I think we are more clothed then what teenagers wear down the super markets nowadays ! I’m now retired from it all but to think girls have now lost a lot of important income because feminists think they know best when they haven’t a clue is really frustrating , we have our own voice , we loved doing the job , this is all basically because some men can’t control what comes out their mouth and nothing to do with the girls . I can walk past a building site and get the same comments so why suddenly a job should be taken away due to some unwanted male attention is a joke . What’s next ? No female magazines , commercials ..... where does it end. Hope the right people get to see this post !

I have a friend called Charlotte who worked as a Grid Girl a few years back. She's tall, slim and very pretty indeed.

 

She got offered the job as one of the regulars had had to drop out for a personal reason and they suggested that Charlotte get a try. So she got kitted up in the skimpy outfit and the revealing top and paraded herself at the racetrack.

 

She loved it!! So much so, in fact, that got scouted by a modelling agency at a later whilst at the track and is now carving herself a decent career as a model out in Australia! All because she was given the opportunity to "showcase" herself as a Grid Girl and make the best possible use of her genetic gifts. :)

 

Fact is: sex sells. Anyone who says different is quite simply lying to themselves. If women wants to use their "assets" to garner attention, all power to them. Men like to look (as a general rule) and women like to be looked at.

 

Will The Powers That Be start banning all these Butlers In The Buff? That objectifies men who work hard at the gym and who are, understandably, proud of their physiques and we can't have anyone being objectified for being attractive now, can we...? Goodbye to the Dream Boys and the Chippendales... no more cheescake featured in movies or TV series...

I’m sure channel 4 could put together an hour long special about why your opinions are “wrong” and why your a bigot. :D I’m really enjoying the coverage of how glouriously women got the vote 100 years ago today due to thier endeavours alone. Ignoring the fact that actually, most didn’t, that actually for the first time the common man got his right to vote and that a major factor in all this was the millions of lives laid down in quite a famous war... :rollseyes:

Not really Chris we’re the same animal, were not just connected. The issue, sufferage, the right to vote, is also the same.
