Water is coming out as fast as its going in, we've got the z on a ramp and from looking underneath it seams to be coming from the gearbox bell housing, thoughts to it being the core plug behind the fly wheel. What are the chances of it being that is there any more water pipes that we have missed near by to this area.

Is the engine running?

Yes the engine runs spot on but due to loss of water it does not get far before its gets to hot and needs to be switched off

Check heater hoses on rear of engine it is a common leak from those

Heater matrix hoses are fine the leak is lower than the outside top of gear box

Welcome to the club Lee and hope you get it sorted.

Thank you, hopefully it's not going to be too much of a headache to find, it's a problem that has been there for quite a while I've just not got around to fixing the car mechanically is sound apart from the water leak, there's a few cosmetics I need to sort out too. Need to get the car right and back on the road again and now is the perfect time to get it sorted ready for the summer

From years ago with my first z I believe there are more water pipes behind the engine & bulkhead than the matrix ones?

You need a diagram of the back of the engine to clarify.

Hope you get it fixed.

Welcome to the Club Lee, rude of me not to have said so earlier. Got any pictures of your Z?

Here she is, japanese import nissan fairlady z twin turbo, de-catted, de-restricted, ram air induction, twin bailey dump valves, 5 inch diameter rage exhaust system, ecu re-map, running @ 418.3 bhp (or was she's probably lost a few over the years)

Sometimes I use imgur, sometimes I use the built in option for subscribed members.

That will almost certainly be the short water hose feeding the passenger side turbo. It can be changed from underneath but its a proper fiddle. It sits directly above the bellhousing and is more accesible with the gearbox removed.I use an 8mm id silicone hose for repairs like these. It does not have to be braided either.

We believe we've found the source of the leak which is directly left of passenger side engine mount next to the ac compressor its the core plug nearest front of vehicle with 2 match stick sized holes

...and she holds water again! 7 core plugs changed, 3 inside the bell housing (1 failed changed all 3) and 2 either side of the block. During this time noticed a couple of holes on the exhaust which we are now welding then time for external cosmetic fixes and she is almost for the road
