I just phoned up my insurance company for a renewal quote to find out that my car is insured with them as a G reg '90. I explained to them that it was an '89 and they were trying to argue with me that my car was not made before '90. Geese, how fickle can you get. Then they said ok we will settle this by doing a trace on the car. They came back saying the car was a '99 Fook me, I wish !!!!. I explained to them that this is the year that it was imported into the country. They then put me on hold for a couple of minutes and told me I needed to fax across the Registration document.

I've been with this company for 6 years now and never had any problems. It seems as though they are saying that my car was not covered if I had had an accident as the details are not correct, so I said ok in that case give me back the money I have paid you for NOT insuring my car.

What a fooking pain in the arse. I think I'm going to pay someone else to go through all the insurance comapnies and get my car insured. It's too much hassle  :( .

I'm too scared to get any mods now, thats going to be a pain in the arse gong through all that. :D

Stuart,

Insurance Companies are a nightmare even more so with a car like a 300. I renewed my insurance at the start of November last year and declared my 3 points for an SP30 I got on Christmas 2001 thinking it wouldnt cost me any more. 90 quid later and a lot more earache from the wife for the premium jump but hey what do u do. I know insurance companies will try to get out of paying out in the event of a claim so thats why I was honest.

I use AON Insurance Co who premium wise have been good but I have never claimed them so I cant tell of my experiences down that road.

Anyways they have u by the short and curlies either way.

Just my 2p's worth.

Cheers John Crisp

Stu,

I know what you mean! I had been with Bell for about 4 years and found them pretty helpful, until I got this latest Z, and "oh no, sorry sir we can't cover an import with an induction kit"

FFS, it's not like it adds that much more power. OK, says I, a pain, but can you at least cover me to leave it in my garage over the weekend? - "No, sorry, because of the induction kit, it's more likely to get stolen, since it's more desirable" - only to someone with X-ray specs, methinks ... anyhow, frantically phone round all the rest, will you?

So I ended up with Insurance Factory at 722 - all mods declared. Not too bad, I thought, although if some bugger hadn't wrecked the last one, Bell wanted 650 this year - arse!

You're right - it's just made too damn difficult, God knows how Skylark owners get on .....

CheerZ,

John.

Bloody insurance companies (and dvla), they always classify 89 cars as Z31's.

Imagine the trouble I had with my old one (F plate Z32!!!)

main things to check is that your log book doesnt say 2 axle rigid body coupe, as this means dvla have registered it as a Z31, then say to the insurance company;

1. My car is an import

2. Allthough they were released in the U.K in 1990, they were on sale in Japan in 1989.

3. Make it quite clear to them that you have tried your best to make sure they are insuring the right year/model and if their database is innacurate its down to them/dvla to sort it out and not you.

4. Try and get them to stipulate Z32 model on your policy/ cover note

Good luck

Shit I have a 89 (F Plate) import and my V5 says exactly that, can anyone else confirm this is incorrect and what should it say.

Cheers

Martin

The only bonus to it saying that is that you get cheaper insurance, one of the ways i found it out was by getting on line quotes one for a z31, one for a z32, and then one with the original reg plate, and the quote price matched the z31 perfectly and the z 32 was higher. Thus they thought mine was a Z 31

Edit, Just noticed yours is a 2 seater that might make it different mine have both been 2+2's
