Hi guys

I need a new set of rubber fitted to my wheels. Currently the tyres are 235 on the front and 265 on the rear. How can you tell if the wheel can take a wider tyre as the rears look a little "stretched" to me?

Cheers,

Chris.

What are the full wheel specs? Widths chiefly however if you're on the limit of the offset, then that might be key to know.

If you're unsure what your wheel specs are, the offset and width will be stamped on the inner spoke, rear facing hub or on forged wheels, they're often stamped on the outer part of the wheel hub.

If memory serves me correctly, aren't you running stock UK wheels? If that's the case I wouldn't add wider tyres.

Got a pic also? I aim for having the contact patch level with the edge of the rim as the maximum.

Thanks guys. I'm not on stock rims and I've no idea what the spec is.

I'll pull the wheels off and see if there's anything stamped on them, that was what I was looking for.

I'll also get some pics while I'm at it.

Well it turns out that once you know you're looking for something then it's easy to find. Not that anything makes much sense to me...

Rears,18x9 JJ, not sure what the second picture says (and I can find a similar marking on my UK and JDM original wheels), VIA (don't know what this means and 690KG.

The fronts have the same markings others the 18x8JJ.

Here's some pics of the current tyres...

They certainly aren't stretched. They look about the right size for the rims.

Your wheels are 9j. If you want slightly larger tyres you can make them 1-2cm wider imo.

I've seen popper stretched tyres and i wasn't suggesting there was much in it but I thought there might have been a bit more rubber to get on the rear. I'll stick with a new set with 265s on the rear then. Thanks guys!
