Hi everyone :),

My name is Tom, I'm looking at buying my first 300zx in the few months, ideally I'd like to get a bone stock z. I've done my homework on what to look for when buying a z, just few questions what people recommend is a price wise on buying a 300.

And what are zs like to live with?

Is there over hints and tips or things to advod when viewing?

Cheers tom.

Hi, yes I've seen this beautiful car, I I won't be getting a z until a few months time I'm afraid, need to save more money and sell my current car.

This is not going to be a popular comment i am afraid,But in all honesty i have seem some horror cars purchased from club members over the years. Its in no way a dig at this great club but i would hate for a newbie too think any car purchased via here must be amazing as in my experience that is not always the case.Do some home work and make sure 100% the car is worth the hard earned money.Do not buy an auto on the pretence you can swap the box at a later date,Good manual boxes are like hens teeth now and 75% have 4th gear issues or bearing noises.Ask for proof of service history,ie cambelt changes and other maintenance a 25 year old car requires.Good luck with the search and as my Dad always said"Buy in haste, and repent at leisure".

If you've got a decent budget then import one. They really don't rust in Japan, when my 95 arrived in 2016 the underside looked like it had been on the road for only a few months!

Jimmers point about manual swaps is good, but if you've got a really good budget you can still buy gearboxes new. But then if you've got that budget might as well buy a factory manual.

Be warned though, I don't want to upset anyone but IMO the autos are 'orrible

Hi Chris! Welcome to the club, I'm a relatively new owner myself.

I would recommend just posting up any potential cars you find here as other members will be able to give them a good look over and they will have likely been posted here and scrutinized in the past anyway. I was lucky enough to meet up with a local member Tom for a chat and Simon lived near the car I ended up purchasing so gave it a look over, I'm eternally thankful for this forum.

In terms of your OP questions, I'v been dailying my 1991 TT import and have had no real issues other than its pretty thirsty. (Slight issue with a fan clutch but close to sorting this now again thanks to this forum!) I think it's just a case of regular maintenance, sorting problems as soon as you find them and keeping it washed and under sealed for these British roads.

When buying I was looking for a fresh import with low milage and good condition, ideally I'd of wanted a manual but all prices were showing as over £10k for those examples. I settled for an auto and will be getting a conversion done later in the year.

I'm nowhere as near knowledgeable as the other members here, but having gone through buying recently myself I hope I can shed some light.
