Hi, thought I should start a new thread, and try and collate all the various work that the car has had since my 9 years of ownership. I cannot believe its been 9 years! and finally my Zed is going to get the respray she deserves.

I have spent the last few weeks deliberating on what colour to go for, and have decided to stick with red. At the moment that's as far as its got though, the shortlist of reds is still at 4/5 options, so more pouring over photos and visiting the odd showroom to help with the decision process. Many thanks to those of you who supplied photos and information on colours, wheels etc.

I will add some key previous threads to this post, along with photos of the stripping of the car and its subsequent paint job. I cannot wait for the beginning of February when the car is due to be transported to Kraftwork.

Original centre badges still to install, along with the new tyre valves when the new rubber goes on.

Just found out that this was delivered today......

Pretty pricey for such a small bottle, but will hopefully keep the new wheels clean

Great product. Good choice

Looking good Howard, is the orange rim a storage protector? I recently protected my wheels with a ceramic coating and the dirt just falls off when you show it a hose! You'll certainly never need any aggressive wheel cleaners again, a quick rinse and a light pass with soapy water and they'll be immaculate again! For your wheels, I would recommend getting a nice soft detailing brush to clean around those bolts. [emoji41]

I've ordered a kit to do the whole car but I'm still sceptical of how long it'll last before I'm not happy with the finish.

Yes the orange tape is just to protect the rims whilst in transit. Although the data sheet for Carbon Collective, states it is safe for bare metal surfaces, I am still feeling pretty nervous about putting it on such a highly polished surface :w00t:

Joel any idea how these sort of coatings can be removed when they get near the end of their life, and you want to apply a new coat?

Would love to know of a coating that works on chrome.

The product is one of many made by a collective of car detailers.

The product was recommended, after I researched on JPs second favourite web site detailing world

You don’t need to remove them mate, they naturally just lose their effectiveness. They can be topped up every couple of years with a another coat or two.

Hmmm, although it'll quite possibly be fine with wheels, I'd have to disagree with this to an extent which is why I'm sceptical about application to my body paint. As good as it is and as hard as the surface finish becomes, it will still get swirls and marring in it over time and going over the top of this will lock in those defects! No chemicals will penetrate and no cleanser will remove it, the only method to remove it is with machine polishing.

Yeah, I was reffering purely about ceramic coating his wheels.

As for paint, I think the ceramic does help protect against mild swirls etc, but anything above that would require matchine polish correction..... and from what I hear, it’s bloody hard going on ceramic coating paint surfaces

I'm going to give a diy kit a go over the winter. My wash routine is fairly anal so swirls and wash marring are generally minimal, if the coating gives it a little bit of extra protection/hardness to make it last longer between polishes, I'll be happy. But I'll be scrutinising it in great detail and up close, so I'm half expecting it to be a waste of time, effort and money lol!

Just need to tweak the ride height on the rear, (although one of the coil overs has seized, so will need removing and freeing up)

I bought this car cover back in 2018 at the NEC, and finally had time to give the car a good clean, so I can try it on for size.

The fit is really good, it has a nice 'elasticity/stretch' and the material is very thick/soft so will give plenty of protection. As you can see there isn't a lot of space down one side of the garage. The only disappointment is the 'Z' emblem they printed onto the front of the cover. I had discussed with the company the 'Z' logo, and they said they had one file. They did offer to send me a proof of it prior to proceeding, but stupidly I said no it will be fine, crack on.

Oh well, I have plan to remedy this, and coming from a print background I definitely should have know better!

Anyway here are the photos.

Like the garage the cover is a nice tight fit mate and good idea with the tennis ball marker for parking. :thumbup1:

So a small update, I have been making some templates so I can get some IC ducts, as there aren't any available that fit my IC, or bumper for that matter. As I don't want to remove the front bumper, its a fiddly job positioning the sections correctly.

Once I am happy with the cardboard pieces, I am cutting the sections from a 3mm composite material, which is already finished in a matt black, and I will bonding the material to the top and bottom of the IC tanks.

I hope to have them finished in time for Simply Japanese.
