Spoke to another zed member in Beaulieu the other week about this colour match.

Well I found this company in Ashford called LKG Coatings.

Their specialist came out with an electronic reader which he took three readings from my Zeds bonnet.

Here's what I got! A ground coat & a pearl coat both HK6 on the can.

Can't imagine the ground coat been a normal grey base coat.

Nissan pearl code is HK6G

Just for your information !

You mean KH6 ;)

I hope they've got the right paint code for you....they probably just made an error in typing.

.....and the 'G' merely denotes trim level. ;)

Interested to see the colour match. Be very careful with the mid coat, I'm not sure how many coats Nissan used, but the more you layer that up, the darker the final finish you'll get, too little and it'll be too light, this is irrespective of how well the computer may have match what you have in the can.

You can make up some of your own spray-out cards, but check them against your own paint in ALL angles both under sun light and when cloudy.

Hi Simon, yes hope it's a type error! Yes KH6

Will get a couple of spray cards.

The pain is for bottom part of front spoiler & lower part of offside door.

Thanks for the advice Si.

Make 2 -3 spray-out cards, firstly with 2 light passes of pearl, then 3 light passes in pearl and finally 4. Imagine it will probably 2 or 3. You also need to finish off with clear on top of the pearl mid coat (I'm sure you know this already).

As Si has already alluded to Nissans KH6 is a three stage pearl. stg 1 is a coloured ground. Stg 2 is the pearl. stage 3 is the clear top coat.

Before you start with the 3 stages you need to fully prep and prime the panels. Your primer needs to be perfect as there is no further opportunity to rub down once you start the process.

Before starting the primer the panels need to be heat dried and panel wiped thoroughly.

DO NOT attempt any of this outside.

The three stages all need to be completed on the same day.

Si has already given good advice about test panels first. I would just add that aerosols do not give anything close to the coverage a good spray gun does so you might need an extra pearl coat from a can??? I dont know for sure as I would never attempt this with aerosols.

As far as top clear coat goes bear in mind that single pack lacquer in rattle cans is not as hard and resistant finish as 2K lacquer especially on something like a front bumper.

Here is a quick copy n paste from a paint supplier about appplication of 3 stage pearls........

Application for 3 Stage colors:

Always check color and spray test panels before spraying your product or project.

Start by prepping your project as you would any other paint job. (Sand, Prime, etc.)

Mix base coat 1-1 with Reducer and stir well.

Apply 2-3 coats of Base coat leaving 10-15 minutes between coats. Leave 30 minutes before applying mid coat.

Mix mid coat 1-1 with Reducer and stir well.

Apply 2-3 coats of mid coat depending on the desire color required. Leave 10-15 minutes between coats. Leave 60 minutes before applying 2K Show Clear.

Apply our 2K Show Clear for a Real Deep Gloss finish.

This refers to bulk paint and thinners of course but the time frames still apply.

One final point to bear in mind you only have 100ml of real paint in a 400ml aerosol. That doesnt cover a very big area .

Thanks for the info, this will also help me as I am cleaning and re-spraying most of my engine bay panels over the so called summer and I have the same 3 stage paints ready for application.
