Hi Guys

Suddenly, the power forward option on my electric drivers seat has stopped working, all the other functions work fine, it just wont go forward. Are the individual motors, etc, i would sacrifice one of the other movements, once set, if thats possible, Also if i have to remove the seat, is it a big jobby.... is there a way to overide the electric motor and push it forward.

Removing the seat is not a big job. 4 bolts and a connector, though if you can't move it forward it might be right to get the rear two.

Then you could get to the wiring underneath and I guess you could feed the forward motor with 12v

Thx Alic, do you know if there is one motor for forward and one for back or it's out the same motor just reversed?

Have you check the track for obstructions - coins etc?

May be the seat switch itself and the the switches are known to be problematic. You can also have a go at

repairing the switch (or find a s/h replacement):

Andrew, hi. the seat was at its normal pos, and i pulled it back 2-3 inches but it wouldn't go forward, doing this a few times resulted in the seat being all the way back. Thanks for the other info.

BIG problem, because the seat is fully back, i cant get any access to the rear bolts, does anyone know if there is a trick for reversing the switch with a piece of wire to get it to move forward? i'll post this question separate as well for those not on this thread

Had a thought , will let you all know later, no point in advertising the fact that i'm an idiot to all, when i can show it to one person...

I knew this would happen :D. Before you get ahead of yourself. Unscrew the switch panel on the side and make sure all the wires are soldered in properly

Ok seen this many times and always the switch is the fault, you can if you find a doner seat unplug all of the electrical harness and switch in one piece and swap them over. To get the seat out you need to power the seat forward in your case which is very easy.

Unplug the seat power supply, get a battery charger or a spare battery and make a temporary connection to the seat ( easy if you have a spare plug from a breaker ) but ensure the new supply is reversed in live and earth the reverse way around. Now the seat will move forward when you do the switch backwards..... simples!!

Raise the seat to its highest position at the back and front, this is needed to access the loom with the seat out.

Jeff, Thanks mate, i think i was going in that direction, but thanks for the confirmation. i'll try that out on the existing switch, if this works it will confirm the switch is at fault.

Thanks

Okay, got the switch/harness off the seat, and it seemed to pass a continuity check on all positions on both switches, on the fwd/back it even reached the connector,

so does that mean its the motor thats fubar?

It may well pass a continuity check when using a low current pass meter, but the motor draws a good amount of power so that connection may not be good enough, anyhow if the motor works one way it will work the other way, have you tried connecting the power reversed yet?

Okay Then, i didn't muck about with the solder at the switch i just swapped the brass contacts on the front/back motor connector, I the plugged it and the power in flicked the switch to back, and hey presto, the seat moved forward!!. Great, so i moved it enough to see the rear seat bolts, and then funnily enough, flicking it fwd, and the seat went back. However the switch did seem faulty in fwd mode, so good thing Funkysi is sending me a switch assembly, should get it next week. So thanks Jeff for guiding me in the right direction, all i need to solve now is my misfire....fat chance.

Thanks all
