Hi guys, basically I just signed up so first I'll say hi to everyone :) I love the 300zx and have always wanted one, just thoght I'd ask some advice about buying and yes I have read the buying guide :)

So I've seen this Nissan 300zx for sale and it's a 3.0 na, it's had a single turbo conversion and is mounted in the rear. Guy says it's a squires turbo system (no idea if that's good)

I'm assuming it's been built for drifting as it has a welded diff, I was going to get the diff replaced for a non welded one as I won't be drifting lol. THe car has 84000 miles and was serviced 1k ago, has 351bhp with printout and apparently has a forged engine. Has a blitz computer and a greddy boost controller. I do have some pics but that's basically all I know. He's selling it for £3,500 but will take £3k, sounds cheap but I don't know what a single turbo 300 goes for?

If I was going to view the car it's a few hours away so would have to buy if I went as I don't want to waste my time.

Can any of you guys give me guidance? Never owned a Nissan but am I going to hav issues with it? Don't want to buy it then it die on me in 2 weeks or so. Is it worth it or would I be wasting my time? Many thanks guys, also sorry if this post is in the wrong section. I'm a newbie ??

Can't offer much advice around the engine set up, but first and foremost check for servicing and rust. Find out if/when it's had a timing belt service (belt, water pump, pulleys, etc) and check usual spots for rust (arches, sills).

Stock cars are reliable once they're serviced well. Something like this, you'll need to be more careful.

Sounds like he's converted an NA with that sort of conversion. Personally, I wouldn't got anywhere near it.

I was thinking the same thing, does anyone know anything about na Turbo's? Anyone on here had one? Just sounds like there would be a world of problems but I've never had a 300zx so I wouldn't know lol

Most folk here if they want to go the turbo route would do a Transfer swap. There's not really much point in turbo charging an NA.

I'd suggest trying to find the best TT that you can rather than by someone else's conversion.

Never ever heard of Squires either.

Ok thanks for the reply :) can't seem to find a decent TT at the moment so I guess I'll keep looking. Thanks for the advice

What's your budget?

Budget is only £3-3500, probably won't get a TT for that but not sure if I want an NA because i want boost

Just sounds like there would be a world of problems

Yes, yes, yes, yes.

In all honesty for your budget you'll be buying something that needs work, be patient but hidden gems are extremely thin on the ground.

I don't mind doing work as I like to work on my cars anyway, love a project and a challenge. Just want it to work and drive lol hopefully a decent one will pop up :)

Still remember the guy from the 2016 coventry meet he bought his for £500 i think it was, set of plugs and a battery and it passed an mot

That's why you're not finding a 'decent TT'. The days of finding good Twin Turbos for £1500-£3k are long gone. Granted, my definition of 'good' is probably different to others'.

Like I said, don't mind if it needs some work as long as the engine is good. Don't mind bad bodywork as it can usually be fixed...apart from rust lol

Even though your standards are much higher Si, you are right. Since buying mine for 5K most have either been around this for an ok one or about 8-10K for a good one. May need to save a little more. My advice would be not to buy the first one you see like myself....I learnt the hard way. 5K later on top of buying and she is starting to be a great car but decided I had to buy because I travelled so far, big mistake. If you have travelled far and its trash walk away because it could cost you thousands in the long run, like mine has. If travelling around costs you say £500 to see a good handful, surely thats better than 5K to make one drivable and all because the previous owner was a drifter or idiot and never looked after the car properly...maintenece first and then the fun bits...Fish cost me 2K in mainteneance first, although the previous owner said it had wanted for nothing...liar, and then fun has cost me about 3K, and she is still not perfect, far from it. Needs about £1500 on bodywork and about another grand on bits...not a cheap hobby. If you cannot save up a touch more or are not willing to travel or cannot aford the above, this might not be the car for you because 3-4K will not buy a perfect example. IMHO only!

That's not a 'decent TT' then. ;)

Try to avoid cars with rust as best you can. When sills and arches are at the point of bubbling up, the repairs can be quite extensive as the inner sills will be rotten through also. If the arches are going then many other underbody parts will either be close to or on their way out.

You will find a TT for that money, a manual slightly harder but still possible.

If it's an na with a forged engine, it hopefully doesn't have the compression of the na which I've been told doesn't like to take any more than 6psi. For reliabilities sake look for a TT imo.

Be patient and keep any eye on what's for sale. Something will come up but as others have said it won't be mint at that price. May need a respray or some light mechanical work but should be MOT'd and driveable.

Since buying mine, at least 10 better ones turned up for the same money since the end of last year...oh well, I still love her though.

Thanks for all the help and device bud, really appreciate it :)

That's what I'm looking for, i don't mind spending money on it as long as it's worth it, a respray or minor engine components would be fine for me. I know cars can get expensive but i just love cars :) I'll keep my eye out for a half decent one

There beautiful cars bud, I would have one in any condition:)

Hi, there's a few zeds in your area...

Before everyone starts getting excited about this single turbo thing being alarming one of the fastest Z32s in the world is a single turbo with an NA bottom end. If your serious about it you need more information but I wouldn't get too alarmed straight off.

I notice no ones asked what engine it is? Is it even a z32(maybe I missed that bit) z31 are stock single turbo.

Seems odd to build a single turbo conversion with a fordged block to run 340hp, very expensive way to achieve what can be topped virtually stock.

More information required, somewhere a wire is crossed in this I think.

Just done some major digging online and belive I have actually found the previous owner of the car on these forums!!

It's an old build but here's some links:

I belive it's the exact same car, looked on his profile and has the exact same wheels.

Surely if it's from that long ago the turbo would be toast by now? Seems a lot of work has gone into it!!

edit: no engine mods..... standard NA engine with low boost turbo strapped to it

Well that rules out the "forged engine" claim then!!

Indeed, don't think the seller is very honest lol

Always best to investigate. I found out a bit about my car from this forum AFTER purchase and found that the last owner was lying to me.
