Hi all,

After a very successful AGM at Coventry on Sunday a few items on the site have now been moved about.

The reason for these changes was generally discussed at the AGM and it is solely geared towards bolstering this site as a Club and not a Forum.

The '300ZX Owners Club' as you can see by the change of logo at the top is the now official title of the club.

--

To increase the benefits of your support to the club the following sections have now been moved into the 'Subscribed Sections' :

300ZX Club Merchandise - This is an old section but has been archived to the Subscribed area.

The Games Room - Similar to media gamers usernames if listed are now protected from spammers and search engine leachers.

Club Competitions - This section will be split and competitions with larger prizes may be reserved to Subscribed members.

Z or Club Pics / Video / Media - You generally has to be subscribed to upload anything in this section, protecting it in the Subbed area prevents your pictures or media being plagiarised by search engines.

Classified Listings - This is now solely reserved for Subscribed members for buying and selling.

FAQ Storage Area - General help on the club is free but we think that this sections access should be reserved to subscribed members.

---

We are working towards building a better club for everyone so we need to up our game.

If anyone has any suggestions please let us know or PM any of the committee.

As usual if anyone has any issues you are free to voice your opinions in a civilised manner. :)

Regards

Lee

Only one thing I would change and that's the FAQ for the forum, and maybe add to it? Make it more visible so that new users can upload photos and all that.

ID like to ask for an update to the search function. Zeds have so many acronyms and is someone wants to search for let's say MAF or TPS, then they should be able to get results. I get that 3 letters wouldn't be a great thing to allow searches on, but perhaps if we could allow it for ones specific to the car some how.

For you can search 'maf' and you can't search 'and'.

Hopefully I'm making sense as to what I mean

This was previously a limitation on the database function rather than the forum software.

Luckily I have found a workaround and managed to get it working. :)

It would give an incentive for registered users to subscribe???

It so would....Ads have made the internet a real ball ache!!!

i am part of a model making site and until you register and sign in you get ads dotted throughout the thread and you cannot see any of the pictures posted. maybe this could be another idea...no pics viewable until you register...i know I need images when looking up stuff about these cars!

Blocking out too much content unless you sub risks pushing more people to facebook instead.

Must say I completely disagree with only subbed members being able to buy, it limits the market a subbed member is advertising to! And I would argue it acted as a catalyst for people to sign up as they could browse the cars and parts available and then think it would be useful to be a member to have a decent access to that side of the club. Not sure how often non-sub members actually buy anything but still.

This is asking people to pay their subs so that the club can restrict their market...why not just advertise on facebook?!?

The problem with not restricting control on the classifides is that it opens the doors up to other issues. There are plenty of unscrupulous types who have come on here to make a fast-buck with no way of anyone being able to trace them and I believe the reason it was moved over to a subscription access about 5 or 6 years ago was an aid to combat that and protect our members. Granted, that has happened with 'some' subscribed members, however far more when it used to be open to the masses.

Plenty of folk being ripped off on Facebook. Generally you know the history and the quality of the parts when they're being sold on the forum and I'd prefer to support the forum's activities and its members rather over some random bloke on a facebook page, but maybe that's just me.

Its never easy to get the right balance I have had several pm's from members complaining that they have missed out on buying to members who are just registered and they think that this is wrong. But let us try and put our subbed members first.

The seller could just as easily sell it elsewhere though. Could give preference to other subscribed members if they wish.

Agreed. Facebook sucks for parts, I found that out the hard way too when G and M S buggered me over with a broken gearbox!! Never again I'm afraid...its here, reputable places recommended on 'ere or nothing!!

I agree, I'm not arguing that we stop only subbed members selling.

A good point, but I think that is the wrong way to look at it. This is not at all putting subbed members first, it is just flipping which type of members (in any given scenario) are put first. Sellers are subbed members too and this view point puts the interests of a buying member above a selling member. Is that fair? It sure isn't putting subbed members first, the buyer gains but the sellers loses. As the sellers are obviously selling their own property and until it is sold it still belongs to them, I don't see why their interests should be subservient. In other words, I think it is wrong for buyers to dictate who sellers can sell to.

This isn't perfectly explained but I can't think of a better way or writing it right now.

I thought about saying something like non-subbed member can only access classified threads that are say at least 3 days old (so subbed members get first dibs), but I'm not sure if that makes it too complicated

I think that's a great idea, (if it's do-able?), gives subbed members the option of getting in first but still gives the seller a wider audience a few days later:thumbup1:

As a non-subbed member I like this as well.

Isn't that what happens, or used to happen on the zclub? If not they certainly discussed having for sale threads that would be for sub'd members for 2 days, then would open to everyone.

This would be a pain, but there aren't many threads that come up for sale often, it could be done by hand?

Jai...I realise you are working on this in your 'spare' time :thumbup1:...and nothing can change overnight.....at the AGM there was talk of enticing prospective new members by fronting the current website with an inviting 'Home' page.... with info on the 300ZX Owners Club and perhaps a history of the marque ...pictures from recent events etc...with links off to the forum, classifieds and forthcoming events etc.....is this still under consideration?

I appreciate that this would take a great deal of design and build effort...but there seemed to be some enthusiasm from certain members to provide, 'web design', 'editorial' and 'coordination' services to design and edit web content and coordinate social media exposure....it would be a shame if that enthusiasm were to evaporate !.....and before anyone comments...I wasn't one of the 'enthusiasts'...and I am not advocating 'lumbering' anyone with additional workload....it was just that there was interest from some who appeared qualified and willing to offer their services :whistling:
