Hi this is dels wife I've kinda managed to get into his account (oops) anyways I thought I'd post as my husband has just sent me a text a very strange one at that so after a little call I'm a bit unsure so thought I'd post on here see what others think.

My husband crashed his car about 5 years ago and within that time the aim was to rebuild and make it his own however we had 2 beautiful kids in that time and between money and time he has been on and off with it.

We got into it a while ago thinking yes were gonna get stuck in its been rebuilt to a point that we have a few things the car is going to need such as front bumper and sills, air filter, both front and back discs and pads plus he had started wrapping the car so is about half way there.

We have our holiday this year and an extension next year and the text he sent was that he felt like he couldn't see us getting it back on the road this year and consider selling it (OMG I didn't ever think I would hear this) and doesn't think he would use it very often so it's therefore an expense we don't need (I get this) but my husband works really hard all year round to make sure we have everything we need and I feel that yeah if it takes a wee bit more time that he should have it.

Has anyone been in this position with kids etc do you use it? Or.isnit worth it?

The car will need to be motd taxed and insured too

Build the car to thrill the children :)

I haven't been there as I am unfortunately the child, but to me it looks like he's lost the motivation more than he needs the money.

If he thinks he can finish it, do it. Once you have a finished car that is drivable (the fun part), then he can re-evaluate (Also being worth more as a finished project)

If he will make a list of the parts he needs, perhaps club spirit will live and people on here will donate FOC. I certainly will if i have anything he needs.

I have always said family and work come first but this is his dream so if its possible keep it keep it keep it.

Agreed.

Ditto.

A lot of us are in the same boat to be honest, my car was parked up for 6 years until I had some spare cash, 2009-2015. Started back into it in March '15. I bought bits and pieces over a further 2 years and have finally managed to get the body sorted and painted. I've still to do all the mechanical side of things but have scraped up most of the cash needed for Jimmer to work his magic:thumbup:

These cars are a hobby at the end of the day, I know I find it a way to de-stress on my few days off from work and family time. Let Del take his time, get the pieces together and then put the whole jigsaw back together:yes:

I reckon that my car won't be ready until this winter, so realistically that's next summer before I can actually drive it. It's trying to do it all at once that's demoralising to some owners, between sourcing the correct parts, paying for them and then paying to have it all reassembled can be an expensive and frustrating task. My neighbour reckons I could have a Porsche 911 with the amount of money I've spent on my Z, but the fact is the Z gets money spent on it when I have it available, I couldn't buy a Porsche 911 as it's a lump sum payment.

Hopefully Del will get back on the Z wagon, but it does help to have the support and understanding of your family :thumbup1:

I've told him to either buy new or.come.on here and see if anyone is selling what he needs (thanks for the foc offer if people had but I wouldn't expect that and would pay for the items than again) buy them tend get the car to the point of an mot before he wraps the rest (as we need to buy more wrap) then once it's ready and on the road he can start to replace old.for new I really have thought the past wee while he has lost the dream and he is always tired due to the hours and the way our family life work but if I could I'd do it for him he really does deserve every bit of it.

I'm all for it and too be honest I'm the one who kinda tries to keep him going I think with it being 5 years he has lost the enthusiasm but I know once done he will regret thinking like that.

Both myself and the kids have everything we need and I know we can do this thanks for the messages everyone it's much appreciated and I hope he is reading these (don't change ure password so I can come back to this post lol)

Thanks again x

Cheers guys for the words of encouragement she has managed to talk me out of getting rid of it. Think i might sit down have make a wee list of what i need to get done over the weekend and try put a plan into place for it. Think im just drained as i had hoped id be driving it by now

Hi Alana,

Don't let him sell whatever you do, its the worst mistake and he will regret it soon as its done.

I've hit hard times and lost nearly everything previously, also lost the heart to carry on with my current project many times.

I've had great support from my wife and kids and its her that helps me get through it all and gives me the energy to carry on.

Its an emotional road trip that both of you will have to go on and that's part of zed life.

Some people look at our cars and don't understand the connection we have with them and the fact that he is willing to give that

up for you and your family shows how strong the connection he has with you.

We as a club are just as much family and maybe he needs some moral support by getting together and going out for a meal.

Its been a few years since we all got together and i'm sure my girls would love to have a day out somewhere.

Also you are both welcome to come down the coast and if you want I can show you my project, have a good chat about his and

also go over the abundance of parts i'll soon have spare that he can take a pick from.

Yeah we would love that Lee kids would enjoy it I think this would be just what he needs I've convinced him not to sell so let us know when ure free and we can arrange something X Thanks To everyone for their messages xx

I can only echo the sentiments of everyone else and urge him not to sell. My Z has been off the road for a number of years due fob I'll health, having kids and a house restoration project. On countless occasions I thought about just selling up and moving on but ultimately I decided to hold on to it. My Z has only this morning arrived back from Jimmer who has worked his magic sorting all the mechanical bits that had been messed up in the past. The bodywork is getting seen to over the next couple of weeks along with sorting out the wheels and interior. It is now exciting again as a project and I am glad I did not walk away from it. Your husband would probably look back at this in the future, if he decides to sell, and wonder what if I had kept going? The time it takes doesn't really matter if it is a project and a distraction that is enjoyable. Once I have mine up and running again I am looking forward to meeting up with fellow Z owners and being involved with the community that is here on the forum. I have been a member of this forum for years and although I don't post much I enjoy reading about everyone's builds. You are obviously very supportive of him and I am sure between you, you can finish the job!

Zed meet in Scotland anyone??? Surely a few of us could pop up and try to sort the car out?

These things are a labour of love but naturally family comes first. I'd be happy to come up and help where I can.

................Otherwise I would have had to close your account!! I mean, allowing someone else to use your log-in and remotely suggest selling up, is punishable by an instant ban, loss of privileges and endless pointing and laughing....

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:
