I am contemplating purchasing these...

https://www.z1motorsports.com/z1-products/z1-motorsports/z1-25-bolt-stainless-steel-downpipes-p-2958.html

Can I ask for people's opinions please?

Not sure if they are a bit limited with regards to power enhancements in the future.

As things stand, I intend to stick with stock turbos and just enhance their performance further down the line.

ie raising boost and improving induction etc.

Just do not want to end up with them being a limiting factor that's all.

Would appreciate it if you would share your thoughts guys, even if it means an alternative downpipe design/manufacture.

Thanks in advance...

So, this is where I am in the decision department...

2.5" pipework for both intake and exhaust. (existing exhaust system may have to go)

Existing intake pipework/intercoolers will definitely have to go.

Twin Maf intakes and larger SMIC's, (make to be decided.) advice welcome.

52 mm Throttle bodies?

From what I have read recently, looks like new manifolds are a must also.

At least now I have an idea of what the overall system will consist of, just need to balance budget and manufacture. (may have to make some compromises)

I'll post a shopping list for comments and advice.

I won't be doing this for a little while yet, just need to get everything straight in my mind before I order things.

Maybe drop the throttle bodies, your going to want bigger injectors and a custom tune to get the best out of things. Have you considered how you will approach this? Nistune? A true stand alone?

Silly question but is the engine serviced and in good condition? No point throwing 1000s in bolt ons at an engine that needs a timing belt.

All valid points Stephen, appreciated.

As for the engine itself, it has covered approximately 25,000 miles, as have the turbos.

As for the belts etc, all things like this will be serviced in conjunction with the modifications.

As for the running and setting up? this will be where members such as yourself will come in handy, as I do not realy have much of an idea.

I anticipate a re map so as to maximise the alterations, but anything else will require further advice.

You will NEED a remap to run larger injectors, and you will need larger injectors to run over 400bhp (or there abouts)

Your list can see you around 400whp on a solid streetable tune, maybe could push to get 450whp but then I would be think about internals.

Of course some experts correct me on any estimates I've made :)

You will require a remap for which you can get a custom map chip (or Nistune file) from SpecialityZ:

http://specialtyz.com/shop/300zx/sz-ecu-chips.html

For fine tuning you can fit a Nistune type 2 board and get yourself along to someone like Greg@Protuner for a rolling road setup:

https://protuner.co.uk/

The power/torque outputs for the setup I referred to above are in the charts Greg@SZ published in the post.

I will be popping into Protuner in the later part of July, hopefully I will get the chance to discus things with him.

Handy really as I work within walking distance.

There's no need to have a Nistune fitted to go and see Greg anymore as Jimmer has kindly donated his personal Nistune board to Protuner in order to make it more cost effective for us to have a remap.

You take your car to Greg, he plugs in his (Jimmer's) Nistune ECU, live maps the car until satisfied, uses the data collated to burn a chip, installs chip into your ECU and hey presto!

Quite a handy £300 saving for a Nistune board that is arguably unnecessary depending on what you want to do with it.

As Andrew mentioned, to get you by, an "off the shelf" chip from SZ will get you by in the mean time once all the gear has been installed. Just be mindful of the fact that the car will need mapping each time you upgrade a component and at £500 a shot, if possible you want to be hitting as much of this as possible in a oner!

See you in July

Interesting news about the nistune. When I spoke to Greg the quote included a nistune. That was a few months ago so maybe things have changed.

Joley- when are you in for a remap? And what mods will you be running?

It's a fairly recent turn of events so it would be worth calling again for details. I'll be in for a remap at some point but have few other things to do first, for now I'll be making use of the SZ chip. Basic mods from me; dual intake (Selin), Greddy coolers, GT525s, 2.5" divorced dp and decat with 740's. Intake ducting is all stock.

Grey just dropped his car up there today so he could give some details? Or is he standalone.

Are these still available?

I have no idea Andrew, I was just compiling a setup so as to invite thoughts and input.

Hopefully I will be able to confirm either way with a bit of investigation.

As far as I am aware the 62mm TBs are the only (new) types available now:

Robert Bastain in the US provided a service to get stock TBs enlarged to 54mm. I'm not sure if he still does, but

contact details are included:

Why would you drop the TB out of curiosity Stephen?

Assumed cost benefit ratio versus similar priced modifications. Obviously all of the above would be great but if not I recon that ones one of the lower rewarding parts.

Again, some super information Andrew.

If I am not mistaken, if I decide to run the 2.5" intake pipework, I will have to do something about the TB's as the original one's will not marry up.

Unless the pipework reduces down at the TB end of course. (can't see it somehow, but you never know i guess.)

You can get a silicone coupler to reduce from 2.5" or whatever the stock TB size is

If you order AshSpec 2.5" IC piping from SZ you can specify the TBs you want to use:

The stock intercooler piping flares out to the throttle body. More noticeable on aftermarket hard pipes. Dunno what the actual size is though. IMG_0923.JPG

I'm sure in reality they will be fine. They seem to be very similar to the japspeed items that many people over here run including me.

Mine will actually be up for sale in a bit once the new turbos go on.

Hi Dougal200, when you do come to put these up for sale, please let me know.
