Hi guys, thought I had sorted this issues out but it seems to have gotten worse this week. When I kick down and it revs hard and I then slow down the accelerator pedal is stiff and she revs higher when idling. When I blip the throttle she revs back to normal. I adjusted the throttle cable because it was too tight and this seemed to have fixed the issue previously but its back...unless the throttle cable has a tendency to become tighter for some reason leaving the throttle open a touch when at idle. The strangest part, for a new to auto owner, is that when in drive or gear it will rev to about 1100 but when I put her into N or P it revs to 3000 until I blip the throttle...suggests something else might be sticking! Any ideas...I've tried searching but nothing is coming up yet. Remember guys I am super new to this so dumb it down if you can. I would get it to Lee but its a little dangerous on a 60 mile trip. Thank you in advance.

Faulty TPS ?

Could be. Are they very hard to replace myself or would I need a mech to do it for me?

Thank you again.

Steve

I don't know Jeff always did mine but I'm sure someone with Tech expertise will come along shortly

Make sure these pipes (two of them both sides) are not fouling the linkages. The pipes can

pop out and need fixing back in place.

Thank you, ill have a look in about 20 minutes when I get home.

Start from the known. Andrew has made a great suggestion and what your describing sounds mechanical rather than electrical so start there. With the engine off. Pop the throttle cover (plastic central cover off) and manipulate the mechanism. See if it operates smoothly and isn't notchy. You should be able to see if it's hitting the breather pipes Andrew highlighted, equally you could unhook the throttle and cruise control cables to isolate them from the equation.

Once your satisfied there isn't a mechanical problem then you can begin to look at sensors such as the Throttle Position Sensor. You will need a multimeter for this stage. There's a number of sensors that could cause what your describing.

I looked at the breather pipe and the left one is miles away and the right one is rubbing and resting against it when throttle is closed. At the top of the breather pipe it looks like it has moved about 20mm out of place...marks left from slippage. Next question is...how do I push that metal pipe in because it seems well in place? You guys are the bomb....thanks. If I get two minutes I will photograph.

It is a push fit. Gently tap it back in. Use a small block of wood or similar between pipe and hammer to avoid damage. You may

need to use a sealant if the pipe has become loose.

Well buddy, its now a different car. After the test run it did start doing it slightly after 20 mins but up until then it was wicked....a second look and the pipe had come back out, but at least I now know the problem is easy to sort. Thank you, you guys have done it again....case closed.
