What the hell is going on with pop music at present?!

I only get normal Radio in the van and I can't abide adverts, so occasionally il listen to Radio1. Yesterday's offering particularly, shockingly shit.

The other week Ed Sherann held 18 of the top 20, 18! Now I don't mind old eddy but that can't be right. Then there's the quality, it's been poor for a while but Katy Perry's latest "banger" (supposedly politically based) is so lack lustre and lyrically devoid its like it was written by a 12 year old. I'm seriously surprised it didn't end "and then we woke up". Even supposed indie artist Lorde's new offering feels like the lyrics and the music were written in two separate hotels then squeezed together in a that will do fashion. All of a sudden they're all from the West Indies, even if they are actually from Texas or Hertfordshire or even Essex.

Rant over :taz:

Radio 1 has long gone for me.:wheelchair:All this new music goes right over my head just give me the old classics and Radio 2 and a few local stations.:punk:

LOL - but yes, me too....! I stopped listening to Radio 1 about 30 years ago....

....Today, it's Planet Rock or Absolute. I quite enjoy Christian O'Connell's breakfast show, but even then, he does stick a bit of Ed Shite-an on sometimes.....

Absolute 80s reminds me of my youth; Absolute Classic Rock is OK too.

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Grimmy winds me up!! Wanna slap that tw@t !!! Absolute 80's, 70's and radio two for this old un. Music now has no creativity behind it. Remember how diverse the charts were back in the 80's.

The trouble is "pop music" has become a genre rather than simply popular music as it once was. The chart is created by complex algorithms, gone are the days where it was simply about single sales as no one buys singles anymore.

Pop music is just stuff that comes out of celebrities mouths. Half of then can't sing and almost none make their own music
