Tell you what pees me off with MOT testers, is there inability to all work from the same page, why oh why do they put stupid ass advisories that make no sense, and one`s that spoil a completely unblemished 10 year MOT record.

"Unable to complete check underneath due to under tray covers fitted "

Argh !! the manufacturer fitted them AND the last 9 TESTER realised there was NO need to mention you could not see the SUMP ?????

Then if you go to Halfords for an MOT then what do you expect ??

Rant over

Jeff

The benefit of a pre mot inspection is that it can highlight potential problems which allows them to be sorted before the whole thing becomes "official". And it would keep the advisory box empty which is why this thread was started if the advisories were rectified pre test.

From the point of view of car owners, paying for a pre-mot will often be met with a reluctance as from the view of a garage to do an effective mot pre-test means you need to do a standard full mot test and the cost of such other wise it will have no merit. So basically the owner pays for two full tests one as a pre and one as the actual test, if you just have a test and fail on an item and can be fixed quickly you get a free retest, so in essence a pre-mot is not worth it in many ways.

Most garages ive been to dont bother with a pre MOT check, obviously costs money to me and if nothing needed doing then pay extra for the MOT, so most just do an MOT as in the long run i guess saves money.

Exactly, case in point.

Then you have no reason to be put out by an advisory notice on your test certificate. The tester is simply doing his job......

Alot of customers choose to have their vehicle serviced prior to the mot and this is good practice as its this service which proves road worthiness. Not the actual mot itself.

It all depends on how clean you want your mot history to be. Some people arent bothered one bit.others like it to be clean.

My last MOT marked my car as 504000 miles or some *****cks. Car's not on the road so haven't had a chance to get it taken to an inspection place which it needs to correct the record.

Sadly it will not get changed. That happened to me at my local garage and of course l went back once l spotted the error. They said it cannot be changed but gave me a letter on headed notepaper stating the mistake and what the mileage should have been. Not good when you use the DVLA mot checker.

Called the VOSA or whatever it's called these days and they said I could take it to some location and inspect it or something. But that's not much use when the car is not on the road.

The issueing test station can correct the wrong mileage within 7 days of the test. After that its more difficult but still possible by contacting the DVSA.

But be real here, mistakes get made, theres nothing stopping you checking your mot cert before you leave the test station.
