Hello, everyone! I am Ed, as I have bought my first 300zx I decided to create a build thread to show others what I am going to be doing and to ask stupid newbie questions :)

So few weeks ago I have bought my first 1991 twin turbo manual 2+2 300zx. Before that I had r33,s13 and loads of bmw`s. Z is a JAP import spec, 43 000 mix of miles and Km, shell is pretty much rust free besides few bubbles on the boot lid.

Engine has been rebuilt 2000 miles ago so it runs spot on,it is currently on a stock boost. I am waiting for the stage 1 turbonoz chip to arrive, so that will take me to around 380-420 bhp with a 15 psi boost, more than enough ! :)

Current plans for the car is Coilovers, Full car wrap, new wheels, engine mods, body mods like side skirts, splitter, diffuser, exhaust, making interior as clean as possible.

I have also started a youtube channel for this car just to keep the records of everything what i am going to be doing on it :D first video ever: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U5gqIG1Z2eI

I will keep my thread updated once any job is done! Thank you for reading, here is few pics of how it is currently looking :)

Today I have also worked on installing GReddy Profec B Spec 2 boost controller. Never done that before and I thought that I need to take the car to someone more experienced.

I have struggled to find any useful information for twin turbo engines but after watching one video which was super unclear and going through a diagram decided to try it anyway.

It was actually super easy and decided to do a DIY video in case anyone else needs help here is a link : https://youtu.be/LU17Wj6mHXM :)

Yes indeed most of us on here would be asking for advice and taking our Z's to specialist's but you and your "team" just get on with what ever needs done.

Good to finally meet you Edviss and love the red Z.

Im loving the vids. Alot of what you have done is on my to do list, so im glad your doing video tutorials.

On the power steering reservoir, does it not need to be higher than the pump for bleeding purposes? If it works out fine there I will be copying haha.

You will find bleeding the PS much easier popping the front end in the air. This way you roll from lock to lock with the engine off. The rack is then bled without damage and you can simply top it off with the engine running. All that dry Steering isn't great.

Engine bay is getting cleaner slowly :) fuse box, ptu and steering reservoir has been relocated. Getting new silicone pipes for the intercooler and relocating my battery and bovs next

Thank you for all the comments :) I didint had any issues bleeding the system maybe the height was just enough. Got my blow off valves to original spots under the nose today, now i can remove the metal piping from the top and install silicone pipes :)

Engine bay is getting cleaner bit by bit. Finally received intercooler silicone pipes, so i could relocate my blow off valves to the original spots under the pumper. I have also adjusted my handbrake as it was literally doing nothing.

Around a week ago I have picked up 300zx twin turbo manual, as I was looking for a drift project for a long time now. I went to look at one which was on ebay for around 2 weeks and no one was bidding on it. Owner said that is has electrical problem and the fuel is to rich. Driving 240 miles one way too look at it was not bad at all, once I have seen the car it looked like a good deal as the shell is perfect no rust, undersealed, engine sounded nice but it didint wanted to start once it heads up unless you bump start it.

Decided to buy it and drive the car back home, so once I got back home I have started looking for a problem, changed the ecu as it had a nistune chip , changed ptu, maf still the same problem. Spoke to like 5 different 300zx technicians and everyone said the same thing check the compression. Went and bought the tester and guess what! All 6 cylinders were on 110-120 psi of compression. So I guess we have found a problem!

After few days of thinking what to do with the car, I have came up to a decision to strip the car take all the better parts of it and put them on mine. Rest of the stuff what we done need to sell and keep the shell as donor, as the zed that we have picked up with forged engine is so rusty, it is just going to be much easier dropping all the good parts in to a nice clean shell :)

My car is getting new t28 turbos, new stage 3 clutch, new ally radiator, electric fans, powedercoated plenum and etc. so it is a win win situation :)

So thats the quick story from the last two weeks :D

last three videos if you want see the car how it looked when we have picked up and what is happening now :)

How many miles on the engine? I'm sure this is a fresh engine and not run in yet(could be mistaken though ) would explain low compression

Are there even 5 in the UK...?

engine has like 95k miles on it, all the previous owner done is powder coated all the parts and changed the gaskets with timing kit, everything else is not touched and stock.

One of the worst interior jobs to do is to change a heater core, it was time consuming and annoying, but it had to be done as it started leaking badly, my carpet was soaking wet and radiator empty haha

We have started a long journey today of re shelling an old rusty zed to a rust free shell. Today's priority was to disassemble the engine, start swapping interior, suspension, lights and etc, :)

It is day 2 of us reshelling this zed. We are moving slowing but the work is getting done! rear subframe is finally swapped and interior is almost done :)

Finally we took the engine out, sorted out clutch pipes, done few deletes and got the engine in and the hks intercoolers on the shell :)

We are almost done! Engine is 100% wired, all pipes are in, intercooler pipes are connected and etc. Engine runs without any issues on all 6 cylinders, no problems from the loom as I was scared moving that 27 year old loom around. We are on the final stretch of finishing this zed :)
