Hello, everyone! I am Ed, as I have bought my first 300zx I decided to create a build thread to show others what I am going to be doing and to ask stupid newbie questions :)

So few weeks ago I have bought my first 1991 twin turbo manual 2+2 300zx. Before that I had r33,s13 and loads of bmw`s. Z is a JAP import spec, 43 000 mix of miles and Km, shell is pretty much rust free besides few bubbles on the boot lid.

Engine has been rebuilt 2000 miles ago so it runs spot on,it is currently on a stock boost. I am waiting for the stage 1 turbonoz chip to arrive, so that will take me to around 380-420 bhp with a 15 psi boost, more than enough ! :)

Current plans for the car is Coilovers, Full car wrap, new wheels, engine mods, body mods like side skirts, splitter, diffuser, exhaust, making interior as clean as possible.

I have also started a youtube channel for this car just to keep the records of everything what i am going to be doing on it :D first video ever: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U5gqIG1Z2eI

I will keep my thread updated once any job is done! Thank you for reading, here is few pics of how it is currently looking :)

Today I have also worked on installing GReddy Profec B Spec 2 boost controller. Never done that before and I thought that I need to take the car to someone more experienced.

I have struggled to find any useful information for twin turbo engines but after watching one video which was super unclear and going through a diagram decided to try it anyway.

It was actually super easy and decided to do a DIY video in case anyone else needs help here is a link : https://youtu.be/LU17Wj6mHXM :)

You have a nose for finding these Z's mate.

that zed is literally 500 yards away from my house and I live here for the last 11 years and I have never seen it before, and apparently it is standing there for the last 5+ years haha

Hi Edviss,

I love the videos mate, I want the same look for my zed . I've always been jap, lowered with bbs lm's it's kinda my thing.

In your experience would 18x10.5 all round fit , at Et 20 with 255 /35/18 rear and 245/35/18 front .

My car is lowered on standard shocks with eibach springs so not that low and the arches are rolled.

Coilvers to come :-)

Cheers ,

Adam

Hi Adam,

They should definitely fit, you might need like 10mm spacer in the front but other then that you should be fine :)

It depends how much you have rolled your arches. If it's just the lips for example then no they won't fit without some hefty rolling especially at the front.

245 on a 10.5" wheel is a no good IMO.

How much material did you use doing the wrap mate?

if you dont mess up any pieces and you dont have to re do them, 15 meters are more than enough :)

Finally UK zed is not a boring car no more , as that old auto box is out and converted in to manual. It took us around 2-3 days to do it, it drives perfectly, gears do shift without any problems clutch is like new, as we have used the one we got with the conversion :)

hello everyone, just a quick update on the zeds. Washed my filter as it was super dirty, we have changed the spark plugs on uk zed and we have also started working on fixing fiberglass spoiler :)

Today i have been working on my exhaust leak and I have wanted to change my front and rear brake pads and in the same time adjust coilover springs. Unfortunately one of my piston is stuck and I had to buy refurbishment kit for my front brakes which will come in hopefully next week.

I think you will find winding those top rings up compressing the spring will add preload not stiffen the spring. Spring rate is fixed by the spring itself, it's to do with how the spring is made. Changing spring rate requires new springs. Didn't you say your spring rate was 10k F 8k R, this should be enough for any street car. Maybe you have another issue that's your car feel soft. Did you overhaul your suspension or just slap the coilovers on?

Why did your turbo elbows come loose? Seems odd they all loosened off, did you forget to torque them up or did you use the wrong hardware? Not sure how the picture will hold up against the exhaust temperatures on the turbo.

thanks for the information on coilovers, you learn something every day :) my suspension is pretty much completely overhauled. I think the bolts have loosened them selves as they haven't been torqued enough due to being scared of snapping them.

So after seeing all those nice engine bays yesterday, I have started working on my one! fuse box and ptu got relocated today, steering pump reservoir is going under the bumper nose, all the hicas and reservoir plates got drilled off, battery is going to the boot, vacuum lines needs tidying up and etc. After this I need to paint rocket covers, plenum, engine bay, water pipes and etc. Long journey of making my engine bay tucked and empty have started today :)

How it looks atm

Our latest purchase is starting to look more and more like a car, interior is back in and finally we have a light steering back as we have fixed that leak issue ! Clutch is much lighter after connecting booster vacuum again.
