As we know, parts are being discontinued at an alarming rate for these cars; many trim and plastic components that were available 6 months ago are now no longer available. Things like the plastic trim that sits on the outside of the door pillar for example are not available at all through Nissan USA however strangely one side is still available from Nissan Japan.

I am buying up brand new OEM parts as quickly as I can when I replace them. I was extremely lucky with my brand new OEM rear spoiler for example and new headlights (granted the headlights were bought from someone who'd bought them new 10 years ago and never fitted them), but things are getting tough now, especially for those wanting a more concourse example.

My point being, I've been trying to get quite a lot of parts for my impending bodywork which starts next Friday and a number of parts were not available from the usual sources such as Z1, Courtesy etc etc. We all know that there's a huge amount of stock in North America, however, North American dealerships, which are generally where the specialists get their parts from, all draw from a huge inventory stored at their headquarters in Tennessee. UK dealerships draw from their European distribution centre in Amsterdam which in turn draws directly from Nissan Japan. A number of recent examples - the front grille for TT cars that is clipped in behind the bumper - these often break and fall to bits - these are not available in North America, however a phone call to a local Nissan dealership showed that they're able to draw this product straight from Japan. I may still not being able to get this as parts only show as obsolete on Nissan UK's system after someone has tried to order it, it isn't automatically updated - I may be that person who tries to order only for the part to be updated as NLS. Lead time is 3 weeks though, so it should get here by the time my car is back at least!

Further to that though, I've had various other bits of trim and clips that can't be sourced through Nissan USA, but Nissan Europe were able to get hold of them. It helps that the cars were available in Japan for another 4 years and stock levels are 4 years in advance of what they might be elsewhere.

If you can't get it though the usual overseas sources, don't give up on using Nissan UK or MJP.

Use this page to give your dealership a helping hand with part numbers. http://nissan4u.com/ - this is for Euro cars which share about 95% of parts from JDM models, but those with FAST should be able to get part numbers for specific JDM parts.

The odd thing is, over the years we got many not available replies from Nissan UK, so then went to factory search in Japan to be told yes obsolete. Then by some miracle some months later they are been manufactured again, the Nissan part ordering and search system is not perfect, I also thing lazy dealers some time`s just say something is not available because there is not enough in it for them.

I think you're right there. A few times now I've asked for a part by part number and they tell me it's not recognised by the system. Most recently, I had to send a picture - with the part number visible - before I could get details!

This is because nissan japan do not have a 10 year production spare parts rule like we have hear in australia. For us aussies when a car reaches 10 years old the car manufacture does not need to continue to produce replacement parts for that model and so whatever is left in the distibution centers is all thats left until stock runs out. From what i know the jap car companies can choose to either discontinue a car for a car during production, as soon as the car ceases production and or 10 years after production ceases its weird i know. I buy all of my z32 brand new from nissan napan direct to avoid the aussie nissan guys as they dont anything here for the z32. I have a japanese contact that goes to nissan for me and let me know whats available and how much nissan want for it.

Is that something we could take advantage of here in the UK? If so how?

Good question, I was just about to ask the same thing.

Not sure ill post the guys website later tonight and ill also post up all of the parts ive recorded so far that ive been told are no discontinued from nissan usa and japan. Stay tuned

There are a few websites that offer this service:

http://www.rhdjapan.com/

https://www.amayama.com/en

I've been using those 2 sites for years I've only made one purchase from RHDjapan which went great but I intend to use them more for nismo related parts in the future, their prices are pretty good but I've never used them for sourcing OEM nissan parts before.

Other sites I use frequently for part number information and prices are

JP-Carparts.com

http://jp-carparts.com/nissan/cartypelist.php?maker=nissan&type=132

japanese based parts website which used the car manufacture's own parts fichie to locate parts. For Nissan they use the same illustrations as the NISSAN FAST program and makes it a hell of alot easier to find the part your looking for them looking at raw numbers like amayama.

Nissan.epc-data.com

http://nissan.epc-data.com/fairlady_z/gz32/

Another japanese parts website exactly like amayama expect its for the japanese market. It doesnt use illustrations like JP-carparts does but it does tend to show more actual available part information compared to JP-carparts. Most of the discontinued parts wont be listed on the nissan.epc-data.com whereas JP-carparts they will be for some strange reason.

For the US market I use

Courtesy Nissan

http://www.courtesyparts.com/

Tend to be way overpriced for what CZP can get me but the part numbers are what i use this site for mainly.

Nissanpartsdeal.com

https://www.nissanpartsdeal.com/

Much easier navigation then Courtesy Nissan and give you all of the available and discontinued parts allowing you to see what is available and what is not.

For the UK and Europe Market I use

Nissan4u.com

http://nissan4u.com/parts/

Has the Nissan FAST illustration to make navigation simple but I've never tried to contact and order another from them as of yet.

Now onto my japanese contact.

The guys name is jesse streeter and I've been using his import services for almost 10 years now and I think I have spent quite a few $1000 of dollars (AUD) in order parts with him over those 10 years. Basically he owns a little import business in Japan and what I normally do is I send him an email with a list of nissan part numbers which he then takes to his local nissan spare parts dealership and gets a quotation for those parts and emails me back the quotation. I reply to him the parts I want to buy which he then sends me back an official invoice which I pay him directly into an Australian bank account. Once the payment clears his accounts he purchases the parts I ask for and waits for them to arrive from Nissan. Once they arrive he boxes them up and emails a second invoice for freight charges. I pay him again into the same bank account and once that clears he sends me the package which normally arrives within a week.

He also can do bidding for used parts on Yahoo auctions (japans version of ebay) for customers as he has an account and it has scored me some pretty rare parts which I normally would have never been able to buy brand new.

His website is here http://jessestreeter.com/ and you can contact him via email and give him your request and he will try and help you if he can.

Now for the discontinued parts list I've gathered so far. As part of my 2000spec conversion build project which I'm still working on, I have done everything I can do document everything at all of the parts I've purchased and installed onto my Z, I hope this information will help other Z owners find the part the are chasing without the guess work I had to do for some of the parts I was chasing for my build I've included everything from part numbers and what years the part was introduced for the Z32 as well as part costings and shipping times along with where I purchased the item all in an effort to help other Z owners find the part their looking for, I've added most of my parts list on my aus300zx garage which you need to be a memeber to view but its free to join.

Funny you should say that. Usually my Nissan parts from CZP are sourced using Courtesy.

Really I didn't know that I always thought CZP buys from a local US Nissan dearlership and I think he gets trade prices on those parts which is why they are cheaper then Courtesy Directly. When I tried to source a brand new USDM adjustable suspension center console switch Courtesy Nissan were the only suppliers who could get me one, they charged me $150 freight through UPS on that little part which I had to pay otherwise I would have never got the part, If I could of got it through CZP it would have been $30 freight. least just say never again will I buy from Courtesy Nissan.

This is correct, CZP buy through a dealership in the Phoenix metroplex area.

They may have the shape but rarely have the strength.

And most certainly don't have the surface quality required. Having utilised one quite a bit, you can never ever get a smooth surface, due to the nature of the technique, it always has lines from the layers built up and the nozzle applying the polymer. Oh and it becomes very pliable at hotish temperatures, such as in a car on a hot day and may even melt. Even sanding it, the friction can generate enough heat to melt the stuff.

Agree with Alic as we have one in the college and it is a great tool but the finish and strength is not great...yet.

Plastic parts can be made with a 3d printer :clown:

If you want poor quality brittle stuff in your car, sure.

The Z Thirty-two 2-din dash console is a prime example of that. It appears to be made from the same substrate used in many 3D printing systems. It's brittle, weak and doesn't have the finish or quality you'd expect from an original part, in fact, it's worse than 25 year old sun baked original parts.

I get it, you can't expect a little manufacturer to invest in £100ks worth of injection moulding tools - but this is precisely why I am a big advocate of original plastic parts.

All you say is true, but what are you going to do if a obsolete part is broken? Sure 3D-printing is not the same as a original part but is might be a solution, not?

We'll get to that when there are no used parts left in the world.

When this happens, you won't be driving a Z32 anymore

Then there's no need for 3D printed parts is there!

Damn, didn't think of that.....:surrender:
