Was wondering if there was any resolution to the zed that was on here last year newly imported and had the VIN number crudely cut out ? seem to remember it went on a bit and many were suggesting the seller had a role to play in helping out.

Now it may well be all was resolved and to a good outcome (?) and lets hope so for all parties, however do not remember seeing anything to suggest that, any links would be appreciated sure other members have wondered too.

There is only one reason why a VIN is removed from a vehicle

Mmm.... yes quite, that is why I wondered how it was concluded as as I understand it the sale was done and then the issue found, kinda cannot see a way forward with that, if you bought a car in the UK and found that after sale it would be either a police job or very least full refund.

Guessing the seller was unaware too which is hard on both parties but then if I remember was not a "cheapy " which compounds the issue.

Not to get into too much again, but the bottom line is it was exported legally despite its unknown and probably eventful past but the agent wasn't aware of the issue, though he did offer to buy it back in the end.

Aha that is as good as one could expect I guess, good on the agent but maybe a part refund to take into account for resale value would have been appropriate too, oh well all that ends well etc.

Yes that's whats happened. I did update the original thread but for your own benefit got the history docs from Japan and the VIN was ground off in 2003, presumably stolen recovered but too old for the records to be held. From then on it was registered under a different number. The auction house wasn't trying to pull a fast one, the non standard VIN was presented on the auction sheet, but my agent missed it. DVLA allowed me to register it under the original VIN in the end.

Agent did offer to buy it back off me so it wouldn't have cost me anything, but I decided life was too short and I really like the car so decided to just keep it and worry about the consequences when/if I ever decide to sell it. I'm perfectly at peace with that and glad with my decision!

Haven't done a great deal to it yet but here's my thread anyway http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?186395-Thready-McThreadface

Well that is real good news that you have resolved it to your satisfaction, I remember at the time that actual clear information was scarce at the time and that made the whole episode seem so much worse, thanks for the update, weird I missed it the original but all good now.

If I was in your situation Chris I would also keep the Z its in great condition with no mechanical issues so enjoy it.

Not too sure actually, was watching some programme about car theft and ringing and it bought it to mind, nothing sinister.
